    Golf clubs reopening in Wales

Yesterday I noticed a couple of friends on Facebook getting excited about their local golf club reopening on Monday.

I was surprised by that, but apparently golf clubs here in Wales are indeed allowed to reopen as long as the clubs themselves and their members follow certain guidelines. Having just read those guidelines, there's not a hope in hell they will be adhered to, but to me they highlight just how stupid the current situation has become.

Different guidelines for England and Wales, but with the Welsh government blatantly bending their own rules in order to benefit certain groups of people. Let's be honest, it's just a load of old bollocks now.

Opening golf clubs-At least that means a fair few Tories off the street.

Completely, people here are just doing as they want now, most realise what Drakeford and sturgeon did is just purely political and had no reasoning

People are taking the piss by going to the shop for non essentials and repeat visits etc, plus walking about in groups, although usually families by the looks of things, and people obviously hanging about a bit for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Apart from that, there aren't any mass gatherings, no sport, cinemas, pubs, gigs, festivals, theatre, entertainment etc. Schools, colleges and Universities closed. work places closed with remote working enforced. Recreational travel has stopped, can't go on holiday etc. In my opinion, people are restricted, the only issue is the dickheads in the shops and those families who seem to think it's ok to stop and chat in parks etc. Unless there's some kind of monitoring system then people will regulate themselves.

I am not going to pretend to not be happy about this, as a very keen golfer. I will be booking a tee time soon for my father and I (same household)

I could try and argue about how golf is such an easy sport to socially distance ( it is). However I do see the hypocrisy of the WAG by maintaining the lock down but allowing people to play golf which is hardly essential. I think the devolved governments held their cards just so they could have a 'gotcha' moment if England's easing doesn't work out.

Looking globally at how other countries have opened up, and our current levels of infection we are at a stage where we should be easing up, it is a shame politicians are playing party politics rather than coming up with common sense approaches.

It's not essential, although 70% of what we all do is probably 'Non Essential' if we want to look at it from that perspective. At some point, non essential stuff is going to have to be implemented with all of the safety measures put in place. The question is, when is it the right time to do so? Enjoy your round.

Indeed. It's obvious what has happened. Boris tells the public that golf courses can reopen, but fails to mention that only applies to English golf courses. Golff Cymru approaches the Welsh government, raises objections, and the Welsh government cave in immediately.

The message from Drakeford and Co is clear:

STAY HOME. PROTECT THE NHS. SAVE LIVES. *

    * (Unless you fancy a game of golf, or a really long bike ride, or a walk up a mountain, or a trip to the garden centre, or a visit to a DIY superstore, or a day on your allotment.)

Do you have an allotment? If so, as long as it's close enough and you're not near anyone else then why would that be a problem? It's better than sitting in the house and feeling like shit, and it could be considered exercise.

If it's deemed safe enough to start up again, then why not?

To be honest, I don't think golf has been deemed safe by the Welsh government at all. When put under a little bit of pressure by the golfing fraternity, they've effectively shrugged their shoulders and said "oh, go on then," knowing full well that the chances of their social distancing guidelines being followed or enforced at the golf clubs are practically zero.

I don't object to people playing golf at all. I object to the hypocrisy of telling the general public one thing, but telling various groups of people another.

You know my views - it's all a load of bollocks now. We can't carry on like this indefinitely and the cracks in the guidelines, which have been appearing since day one, are now wide open. The lockdown in the UK has always been half-arsed. The quicker the authorities bite the bullet and allow everyone to attempt to get back to some sort of normality the better as far as I'm concerned.

I object to people playing golf. The golfing fraternity are probably Tories, those that run it anyway, can't see Drakeford caving in to them if i'm honest and we don't really know why he's made that decision. In my opinion the Government aren't sure what to do, i'm convinced that Drakeford is a cautious politician who will not allow things to start up to soon even if the evidence states differently. We shall see

I have largely ignored all this political bollocks but what was the actual outcome of yesterday's statement from Drakeford, I heard there was going to be an announcement, that we were having a traffic light system but no actual detail of what that meant.

    Did we learn anything new?

We can now stay at home for longer every day. we can exercise twice a day, and rubbish tips and libraries will open (Id local councils decide to) Only take exercise locally, don't drive to exercise, and it must start and finish at home. (Not at your allotment lol)
Laterly, you can play golf, which as I said in an earlier post, is nice as I couldn't play before.

Lockdown will be enforced more rigorously

Cheers. Not much difference then. Be good to get to the tip. Been building up a bunch of stuff while staying at home.
