I have fond memories of going camping out my back garden in Ely as a kid in the early 80's with a couple of my mates and getting up at 3.30am and then us walking over Ely Bridge towards the post office at Victoria Park and walking over that metal bridge that took you down towards the back of Ely paper Mill, then towards the unigate depot on Sanintorium Road we would wait outside from about 4am until about 5.30 in all weather's, waiting for the milkman to arrive in there cars and parking up outside the depot.
As they got out of they're cars we would run up towards them and ask, "Do you need a milk boy today Mr?"
We would always get jobs and get paid anything between £3-£4 quid a day.
Anybody else used to do this?
Happy days.

did something similar in east Cardiff uncle bob
great times
And if you didn't manage to get a job you'd go milking, nicking a pint of milk off someone's doorstep on the way back home, if you were lucky a pint of orange juice
We used to camp over in the cows field by the stream (the Y ) Llanishen
and then help Husband Brothers drivers up in Lisvane .
I walked that way home to Ely the night Jock stein died.
Didn't know he had passed until we got home.
