Is it a retired thing?

I bumped into a mate of mine in the Supermarket yesterday and after we had put the world to rights, I happened to see a massive catering box of crunchie nut cornflakes in his trolley so I made some comment of "Christ, you must really like them?" (knowing that it's only him & his wife at home).

"Yes" he said, "everyday day I have a bowl of porridge at 7am, walk the dog for an hour, then have 2 bowls of cornflakes before I take the grandkids to school. On my return, I wander down the shop for my paper (do people actually still buy papers?). At 11am I have 5 pieces of fruit and a ham sandwich at 1pm for my lunch. I then collect the kids from school and take the dog out for another walk before tea"

I didn't know whether to be impressed by his organised existence or saddened by his lack of spontaneity.

Is this really what awaits us when we hit retirement?
