    Games against the Jacks

With the double in a League season never been done who has the record of most wins in a row between the 2 sides.
    Over to the states?

Didn’t think we were allowed to leave the country but, anyway, have a nice time in the USA

In terms of games solely in the English system, no side has won more than 2 games in a row. In the inter-war years, we beat Swansea 14 times on the trot, but those games are no longer considered competitive.

If you add the Welsh cup into the mix, then we've won 3 games on the trot against the Jacks, between 1959-60 and 1967-69. They did the same to us in 1949-50.

While not exactly the same thing, both sides have managed runs of 8 games without defeat to the other. Ours was between 1967-76 and theirs was between 1997-2010. Chopra's late winner at the CCS was our first win in 9 attempts against Swansea and only our 3rd win in 19 games against them since 1990, excluding Welsh cup stuff.

Thank you Eric it's always been a very competitive derby game and probably always will.

We beat them quite a few times early 90’s didn’t we? Also as bad as it sounds not beating them in 13 years, weren’t we in a league above for most of that time?

Chopra late winner went in as the Jacks were singing “you’ll never beat the Jacks..”😃

From 1990-96 we won 5 games against Swansea - 4 in the Welsh cup and 1 in the league. We lost 6 against them - 4 in the league, 1 in the FA cup and 1 in the Associate Members' cup.

You're absolutely right in that we spent 9 seasons in different divisions between 1999-2008. Equally, our longest unbeaten record against them over 9 years was for the same reason - our 8 games unbeaten against them were all in the Welsh cup!

It's something of a mystery that our record against Swansea in the Welsh cup is so good, when our record against them in other competitions isn't. Outside of the Welsh cup, we've only won 7 out of 34 trips to Swansea. Our record there in Welsh competitions is 12 wins out of 18!

That near decade stint in the 00s near enough coincides with the time I started going down the city regularly. My abiding memory of the jacks at that time, and I guess by extension the derby, is that they were becoming a little peripheral, tending to be a division below us (maybe two at points?) and having nearly dropped out of the football league entirely.

Both clubs’ directions of travel felt like they were heading in opposite directions and at points it wouldn’t have been unimaginable that it may have been a while before our paths would cross again in the league.

Fairplay to them, their turnaround and subsequent rise since that game against Hull (I think?) has been something I don’t think anyone would have seen coming.

I read an article on the weekend that said when we played the Jack's in 1980 it was the first time we had played them in the league in 15 years!

That's right. In April 1965 we beat them 5-0 and lost 1-0 at the Vetch on 1 January 1980. Prior to that we went 18 years without playing them in the league between 1931 and 1949, but World War 2 had something to do with part of that.

There have been 60 league derbies between the two sides. 28 of them occurred in the 1980s and 1990s.
