    THREE LIONS ON THE SHIRT

Just wondering if each one represents a lost penalty shoot-out at the Euros. Following 1996, 2004 and 2014 I look forward to the fourth one being added soon.

Sour grapes ? You bet !

Nothing to do with the song itself but why aren’t English teams (with that logo) just nicknamed “the lions”? “The three lions” always sounded off to me.

Such as The British Lions rugby team, or the Lionesses - English Women's football team?

I’ll give you lionesses, wasn’t aware of theirs. But the British Lions aren’t an English side and, namesake aside, England are represented by a rose on their badge.
