Thread: Drinking alcohol while eating a meal - anyone else unable to do this?

Drinking alcohol while eating a meal - anyone else unable to do this?

Excluding Xmas Dinner when I'll drink wine, I've never been able to have a pint with my meal when I go out for food. If I've ever ordered a lager because everyone else has I'll always drink it after my meal..

As a rule I can't usually eat once I've been out on the piss for a bit either, so even if we went for an Indian midway through the evening I'd not be able to drink alcohol whilst eating my food..
Anyone else unable to drink whilst eating?

Each to their own obviously, lager isn't great tasting anyway but I can't understand how some people can smash down 3 4 pints while eating, just spoils the food for me

Yup, totally agree. If i'm out on a sesh with the boys I have to eat first otherwise I won't eat at all.
Plenty of vitamins and minerals in beer

You don't have to order a lager just because everyone else has.

You are right, it's not peer pressure it's just a lazy mind following the flow. Doesn't happen often.

And an hour or so before I go out to "make room"

I stopped alcohol in 2009, but when I did drink, I couldn't do a pint with a meal.

I can drink 1 or 2 with a meal. I used to find if we went out for a meal, in say a gang of couples, then going for a drink after was hard work. Bloated from the grub.

I find that eating and drinking at the same time makes me prone to choking.

Seriously though, I've never had a problem with a glass of wine or a pint of ale (not fecking eskimo piss lager) with a meal.

I just can't seem to drink while I eat. Take a bite of something nice tasting then spoil it with a gulp of lager. I can drink before and after just don't like the taste while I eat.

Well that’s pretty obvious. Be a bit strange going to a pub / restaurant and not eating or drinking

Never drink with food, only after. I don’t drink beer but when I did I’d not have it with a meal. Snacks maybe, but never a meal. I don’t really buy wine pairing either, I have water.

Useless fact here but humans are the only animal that eats and drinks at the same time.

I agree with you on this one. I have been known to have a pint with some pub grub, usually before watching City, but it does have a negative effect on the food.

I don't know why anyone would want to repeatedly wash away the taste of their lovely meal with a 3 quid pint of lager.

Me too. I’d much rather go and have a full quota of beer to work up an appetite for a curry. If I eat first there’s no room for beer. Takes me a couple of hours to get back to normal

    Same.

Cant beat a drop of vino with a nice meal .

Or a decent lager with a curry .

Or an Absolute vodka and coke any time of the day or evening.

    Same rules when staying in.
