Be great if you could prevent them but you can only discourage them.
I get the impression that it’s essentially a domestic gone nuts.
If I were going to look for societal reasons it’d be an obsession with crime and violence in all entertainment etc plus abandonment of 8000 years of natural human behaviour ( which is bound to cause mental illness) , but really it was another sad case of one man giving in to the voices of evil.
