All that fuss about Boris receiving a fine for breaching covid rules, the fact that Rishi also received one seems to have been forgotten in the leadership race

Re: The real reason Boris Johnson was ousted

This is pretty normal for a Tucker Carlson interview.

I just don't see him being popular.

The whole tax issue with his wife. Covid fine. Deliverer of some pretty bad news lately (not his fault sure).

He's a name I suppose but surely has to be someone else.

That could be his undoing. Having Rees Mogg and Dorries backing Liz Truss doesn't make her an attractive alternative either.

Good ol Carlson, can always be relied on for a bit of lunacy. I think Johnson would have fallen out with the right wing of his party big time in the future. He was happy to parrot their causes to gain power but he was never a natural fit . Hasn't got to that point yet though, the reason he is going is because he can't tell the truth and Bbecause he sent out others to lie for hkm

Rishi's launch press conference was worth watching this morning, if only for Beth Rigby's question.
Politics Live on the BBC strangely cut away from it just as the tone of the question became apparent. Sky kept with it as they should

Re: The real reason Boris Johnson was ousted

Johnson arguably had the hardest tenure of any politician since WW2

If it was just Brexit, I think he would have actually managed to do ok as PM

But with COVID, he messed so many things up, so many more lies than he did with Brexit that it was a perfect opportunity for the rest of the conservatives to get rid of him.

His popularity helped him get such a majority that he should have had the power to get quite a lot done, and managed to **** it up with silly mistakes

Re: The real reason Boris Johnson was ousted

Only a few weeks ago, the majority of the tory mps backed him in a vote of confidence.
These same tories then started resigning and/or demanding that he resign.

Proves the old saying I suppose.

You have to be firmly behind someone in order to stab him in the back.

Just another reminder that even being on the "right" in this country means you'd end up being called "left" in the good ol' US of A.

Boris was a Tory yet his Net Zero "green agenda", his inability to break up and sell off the NHS and not tripping over himself to burn every single bridge with mainland Europe within 5 minutes of taking office would have him painted as a card-carrying Commie by the likes of Fox News et al. America's political compass is so skewed it's crazy.

    Absolutely.

I believe Boris made the Tories electable as he was popular. Any thoughts the far right of the Tory party has that it could take over and win elections are utterly mad. If they do that, Labour step into the middle ground and even someone as dull as Starmer would be PM.
