Released player - any indications they could have improved our team if they stayed?

Answer seems to be no based on their records this season.

    Established starters:
Aden Flint now at Stoke with 5 appearances (no goals).
Will Vaulks now at Sheff Weds with 6 appearances (no goals).
Marlon Pack now at Portsmouth with 6 appearances (no goals).
Sam Bowen now at Newport with 5 appearances (no goals).

Getting game time but struggling to establish themselves:
Ciaron Brown now at Oxford with 4 appearances but only 2 starts (no goals).
James Collins now at Derby with 2 appearances (no goals).
Josh Murphy now at Oxford with 2 appearances but only 1 start (no goals).

    Getting no action:
Alex Smithies now appears to be third choice at Leicester.
Leandro Bacuna still without a club
Isaac Vassell still without a club

Nothing here to suggest we should have kept them although a case could probably be made for Flint.

What astounds me is how much money at least half of those were earning (not their fault) but shows and proves big wages don't get big players.
Josh Murphy cost 10mil from Norwich, that is just mental.
There is not one player on the list I miss or would want back, onwards and upwards with the new squad.

I would say that none of them are being missed. As for Flint, I’d say we could maybe work out a deal with Sean Morrison - I’m all for the new approach, but would like to see a few more six footers around when it comes to set pieces.

I didn't mind Flint, wouldn't fit our system though unfortunately. His presence at set pieces is definitely missed.

The rest offer nothing. It's crazy if you tally up the fees there's about 20m worth of players that were mostly disappointing and have been released for nothing.

I had to take a moment to pause when I came to reading Josh Murphy's name - Oxford United, just one start!

Football can be a precarious business.

It seems crazy that we can all pretty much say that we don't miss any of those players, but it's true.
It's bizarre that we ended up carrying a lot of big wage players who offered us very little.

The only one I'd have kept out of that lot would be Smithies, I rate him pretty highly as far as keepers go, but can't say I'd have kept any one of the others.

Not sure where you got that stat from, but Collins has made 9 appearances for Derby - 7 starts, 2 sub apps.

No goals. He’s like an older Max Watters.

And he was subbed in that game, just 88 minutes on the pitch across his two appearance.

Actually checking the Derby site apparently he has mustered 10 shots for no goals across 8 appearances. Clearly maintaining his form from his time with us!

Pack is a regular in a team that leads League 1 - the mighty Pompey!

And after being in the engine room of the team that thrashed Cardiff in the C Cup, it might be argued that he would improve the team. Not that I'm a huge fan of MP.

The ‘(no goals)’ part next to Collins’ name was a bit unnecessary.
