In Spanish, it would be pronounced "Hay-Seus", probably in Portuguese too.
I thought there was more culture in Cowbridge?

It’s also Espãna in Spanish......I just call it Spain. Reminds me of a Geordie being interviewed after Newcastle thrashed Man U, “And what did you think of Felleeep Albear’s goal?” .....”We call him Philip Albert man!”

Same here. Never thought I would concur with this forum's premier rotter on any subject.

I think I need to lie down.

What a sad and pathetic thread.

What is so wrong about trying to pronounce a person's name the way they pronounce it themselves? If your name was Dafydd, would you be OK with English people calling you Daffid?

    In Spanish it’s Hay-zeus
    In Portuguese it’s Jay-zeus

We're quite an insular lot and not that receptive to using foreign pronunciations, possibly for fear of sounding pretentious. I know it took me a while to get used to saying A(y)ax Amsterdam as it is correctly spoken and not Ajax as in the cleaning product. Every day's a school day Sludge.

    Get over it big boy.

Surely someone has said to these blokes they are pronouncing these names wrong

It's like someone saying klanelli , you helping them to say it properly then them not bothering and saying klanelli

No because these commentators are giving it the big listen to me and saying it wrongly

If they were told how to say it properly and did that it wouldn't grate on the ear

Considering Sludge's comments regarding the Welsh language, I imagine he'd want to be called Dave
