The Corporation use a third-party, Capita, to collect their TV tax which is called a License fee.
Capita use psychological warfare by sending increasingly threatening, harassing letters to addresses which they presume is occupied and those occupants are watching live TV broadcasts without having a valid License.
They constantly threaten to send a snooper to make a doorstep visit but rarely do. The said snooper has no power of entry and nobody is obliged to allow them entry into their property or answer any of their queries.
Also, TV detector vans are and always were a myth.
By the way, I noticed an abject spelling error of yours a week ago. But was far too gentlemanly to highlight it as that's what those like you enjoy doing.
It's the first word in this post. https://www.ccmb.co.uk/showthread.ph...78#post5379178
By the way, Org.... yours was not a spelling error per se. Just something minor in that highlights a subtle difference between the two major forms of English. Not that I speacialise/specialise in such things
I don’t know about you but I usually post on a phone , and when you have multiple windows open at the same time, or on a train or watching T.V or doing family stuff , It’s easily done and to pick holes in respect of spelling etc is petty to the extreme isn’t it ?
The number one best at spelling around here is Lardy. Cyril, his curmudgeonly uncle, is also top notch.
Capita send monthly letters. The initial one says in red letters: Your property is now under official investigation. Later they amend it by including 'full' between under and investigation. Then they give time countdowns... you have two weeks to pay, 10 days, etc.
I'm not aware of another outfit who can send with impunity threatening and unsolicited mail which are designed to intentionally scare recipients.
About 8 years ago I'd just bought a house and a week later I came home from work and parked on the drive.
I hear a voice say 'hey mate do you watch TV?'
Me thinking I'd made a friend said 'yeah I do'
I then see a bloke who says 'that's funny, I'm from TV licensing'.
He let me off if I paid the whole amount straight away as I'd only been in the house a week.. lucky me.
