    Nelson to Blackpool?

Wouldn’t be surprised to see this happen.

Mick will need a few more CBs to play his classic 5 at the back.

I would rather keep Nelson and send Simpson to the seaside - if we need to trim the CB club now McGuinness is back (and maybe Denham close to fitness).

Yes, Jon I agree. Curtis is a much better player than Simpson.

Its a difficult one. Nelson would be good in L1 and hes a much better back up than Simpson in the Championship.

Hes probably our 3rd best centre back.

    Wed need a replacement.

Yes, I would rather see Simpson go out first.
Nelson has his limitations, however, Simpson is the weaker of the two.

I cant see any Championship club wanting Simpson.

Great news if true, I wonder if they need Ojo too?

Keep Nelson, useful at this level

He is. Maybe not 1st choice but just the player to bring on to defend a lead [if we get one].

I think getting an offer for any back up players needs to be accepted really if it allows us to potentially strengthen elsewhere. I also seem to remember most of our fans slating him until one decent performance recently.

Even if it strengthens a relegation rival though?

If he's not good enough for us in a relegation battle, why would he be good enough for Blackpool?

he has his strengths, Mick's football will probably suit him more than here

You've got to love the sweeping mood changes on here.

A few months back he was not fit to wear the shirt. Now Nelson, off the back of two games against Leeds second team and their firsts (which we lost 5-2) he is flavour of the month again.

Nelson is fine, apart from a couple of things, he can't tackle, can't pass and has no positioning sense.
Someone earlier has said he's useful?
I'm struggling to think of what that might be!!
    League one at best

I dont see one post suggesting he is flavour of the month. Unless useful is flavour of the month.

Useful is a lot better than was said before.

All based on two games in the cup where we conceded a total of 7 goals. If he is useful I'd hate to see what a useless defender looked like.

You are right that some people were rubbishing Nelson earlier in the season (and some are still doing it) but not everyone dumps on our players like that. There is sometimes the mob mentality of hyperactive three year olds when someone decides on the next player to get the 'crap', League 1, or 'waste of space' treatment and the like minded pile in.

In previous threads about Nelson - even after that car crash of a start to his season - there were a good number of posters who were able to give a more rounded view. We all know what he is not good at, but we have also seen him doing a very effective job at the back in recent years and picking up a few MOMs on the way.

He is no Beckenbaur, but he usually (some recent howlers but they are not the norm) defends competently, and when he was in the mix with Morrison and Flint it was Nelson who had the legs and worked non-stop to cover for them. He has limitations but is a very useful squad player, even if never 'flavour of the month'. I can see the sense for the club and player in a move this month, but the team will be weaker for it.

I'd rather offload Simpson. Nelson is decent for backs to the wall scenario but can be picked off if counter attacked or asked to play out from the back

    Re: Nelson to Blackpool?

I think people have rose tinted specs on because he headed a few balls away from a poor Leeds showing.

He is good for high pressure defending but those games should be few and far between.

Simpson has the better pedigree and the better potential to suit a more passing, counter attacking side.

Id wish him well as I do like him and he does give 100% but the smart money is on Simpson even though he hasn't proved it yet.

I can never get my head around this bringing on an extra defender malarkey.

Oooo, look, we’re 1-0 up, with 10 minutes to go, I know let’s take off an attacking player and bring on a cold uninterested player and INVITE the opposition to attack us.

    Utter garbage !!!!!!!

The best form of defence is ATTACK

I've often thought this. But it seems to go against the way most Managers set up.
I get it against bigger teams when you're the underdog, backs against the wall.
But when your approach to the game has got you in front against a team comparable or not as good as you I don't understand why teams then sit back and wait for the opposition to come at them

    Re: Nelson to Blackpool?

I don't think he's as bad as made out.

Won't have kipre next year, not a fan of Ng at cb, we may yet be league 1, particularly if helping to strengthen a relegation rival.

Unless he's going in as an agent on loan I say we keep him.

There'll be plenty of free agents for the next few years.

    We'll be OK
