Reading the triumphalism on here today, I take it the two cases Aaron Banks lost have been overturned?

Yeah she has to pay him £35000. No triumphalism. But the shite she spewed out about Russia buying elections was the kind of trope that has been very divisive in our society in the last few years. So it's good to see there are consequences. She evidently has more in common with Fox News than she would like!

Was it her shite, or was she reading from a script?

A bunch of radical people who desperately wanted to believe something as they couldn't face up to the reality that some people thought differently to them.

Social media provides a very rich customer base of people desperate to believe the kind of thing Cadwalladr pumped out. It's largely tosh and I hope in future people will recognise this garbage comes from across the political spectrum (though I sincerely doubt they will)

Very divisive? The right don't seem to get that most people in the UK are much more concerned about far more mundane matters like food and petrol bills, the cost of utilities and the fact that, if you're under a certain age, you can give up on owning your own home unless your parents have an awful lot "put by".

According to Wikipedia, the Court of Appeal threw out two of Banks' challenges to the original ruling on the libel case, so it would appear that, unless the entry had not been updated to include the recent verdict, the answer to my question is no, not yes.

Sorry, what do you mean, 'the right'?

Do you not think the arguments about Russian influence on Brexit were not very divisive, in the sense it implied people are stupid, or that the vote was invalid? It was massively divisive. If it helps you to understand why, perhaps you can just picture Fox News saying the exact same things about the 2020 US elections.

It's been toxic for years, and people like Cadwalladr take their share of the blame for that, for pumping out crap that people were desperate to believe.

    Re: Carol Vorderman.

I'm still pretty sure Carol Vorderman and Carole Cadwalladr are not the same person. Therefore how is the latter connected to this thread!

By the way Arron Banks is a massive c**t!

Carol Vorderman needs to grow up and act her age and the sometimes Tory ( when it fitted ) now champagne virtual signalling socialist is obnoxious and false, awful plastic plumped up and squeezed into young woman's clothing fame seeking model . as her career plunges , not one for young girls to follow .

As the Velvet Underground once sang :

    Can I have your autograph
He said to the fat blonde actress
You know I've seen every movie you've been in
From Paths of Pain to Jewels of Glory
And when you kissed Robert Mitchum
Gee but I thought you'd never catch him

    Over the hill right now
    And you're looking for love
You're over the hill right now
    And you're looking for love
    I'll come running to you
    honey when you want me
    I'll come running to yoy
    honey when you want me

    Can I have your autograph

I perfectly well understand that people care far more about things like the price of petrol, utilities and housing, Bob. Not so long ago I was renting a tiny one bed flat and couldn't afford to run a car.

Indeed, I am critical of those across the spectrum who don't focus on these things, and it's a pretty common (not entirely fair) accusation that it is the left that has forgotten about these issues.

So basically what you have just accused me of is, completely wrong.

Yes, this has morphed into a general thread about all things Carol related.

I'd say my favourite one is good king Wenceslas, but id get an earful about the monarchy

You do this quite often - accuse someone, sometimes rightly, of having a blinkered point of view while revealing that you're just the same as them, but from the opposite viewpoint. Objectively speaking, the only one of the three things you accuse Ms Cadwalladr of doing which can be said to be correct is the last one - the other two are just your, biased, take on the situation.
Is that Carole Cadwalladr you refer to the same Carole Cadwalladr who routinely has corrections of her articles printed within days, who used the "truth" defence in the Banks case only to then abandon that defence and instead claim no real damage was done as nobody liked Banks to begin with?

Probably is, but I don’t see what that’s got to do with what I was saying.

See now what you should say here is that the court decision is interesting and she was obviously saying untrue things.

Instead, for some unfathomable reason you are accusing me of not caring about the price of petrol, housing or utilities.

Not only is that false, insulting and weird it's also totally off topic.

It's time to ditch the labels, the political parties are all on the same team.
