Maybe they are rangodin/coypu/nutria?! An animal I was only made aware of on a recent trip to Italy by a French colleague. They look like huge rats/beavers. I wondered how they hadn’t made their way to the UK
Coypu were introduced for fur farming in East Anglia before the war, escaped and with no natural predator multiplied before locals got shit loads of cash for shooting them back into extinction.
