"George Best. Cyprus v Northern Ireland 1971, I was eight when my dad drove myself and my brother to Nicosia for the match. Towards the end of the game Northern Ireland were awarded a penalty. Hundreds of people went onto the pitch and formed an arc to see George Best score. He scored and we all went back to the stand. Charles Linehan, Brighton"

    What the ****ing ****

All just casually strolled onto the pitch...

Couple of City “legends” in there, Rickie Lambert as well as Cork.

Speaking of the fallibility of memory in the other thread, would have sworn Alan Cork was a good old fashioned clogger of an English center back.

Saw Maradona, George Best and Gerd Müller in the flesh.

    Johan Cruyff for me.
Saw him completely dominate a game for Barcelona against Aston Villa in 1978 in the old UEFA cup.
Scored the opener and set up a second late on before being subbed with 10 minutes or so left. Villa promptly scored twice!

I forgot to mention that Leighton Phillips was one of the Villa players who completely failed to get anywhere near him on the night!

Cruyff was phenomenal. He's up there with the top six of all time. And he managed to do it all on 60 fags a day! That's puffing incredible!

If only Gary Madine smoked, it could have been all so different!

Gareth Bale in his prime, close to the pitch was impressive, his touch and pace were unbelievable.

lol - Leighton Phillips was one of my Dad's favourite players I'd have loved to have seen Cruyff play.

I saw Maradona play but in a rubbish friendly at Wembley, but Klinsmann for West Germany vs Holland in the San Siro in the 1990 WC was the best individual striker's performance that I have witnessed, Cardiff City and Wales players excluded, obviously.

Best performance I’ve seen from a striker was Luis Suarez against us in 2014 in a 6-2 win. He destroyed us and got a hat trick. I know we were crap, but Suarez was unplayable!

Cruyff is my all-time number one.
Thhe 70s Dutch side were a joy to watch - how they didn't lift the WC is a mystery.
Then he went to Barcelona and transformed them.

    Aw, c’mon, wasn’t it 6-3?

For me, Robert Earnshaw in his first spell for us was amazing. He could score top drawer spectacular goals, would roast defenders with his pace. He's the best City striker this millennium. Easily better than Chopra.

For me in person probably Bergkamp, pure class above everyone else on the pitch.

City wise I’d agree with Earnie, there was a spell early on in his career with us he was unplayable and you felt he’d score every time he touched the ball around the opposition penalty area.
