If we had swopped Keepers with Rotherham on the first day of the season

We would have been safe by Christmas and they would have been down, ok slight exaggeration but what a difference it would have made, he made some great saves yesterday.

After signing Kaba somehow, we need to loan a top young keeper if we can't wangle some sort of loan-buy Keeper.

Our keeper last night had virtually nothing to do and hasn't played much all season, so you never know he might be good enough if he gets a chance.
If we do sign anyone he doesn't have to be young, goalkeepers tend to get better as they get older and last longer than outfield players.

No, I agree they do, it's just with this embargo will we be able to sign anyone?

If not we need to try and loan one, and will a team loan out a good experienced keeper?

A pity we didn’t swap one of our players with someone who can take a penalty as we would be safe now !

That's someone else we need, and a dead ball specialist, for corners and free kicks.

More players able to deliver a set piece would help. But Ralls has been a regular set piece taker when we were arguably the best in the league.

We are now arguably the worst. I suggest the issue is elsewhere.

One of the commentators last night mentioned a crazy awful statistic about goals scored from corners by Cardiff City this season. 1 goal from over 200 odd corners. That's about as damning as it can get on the quality of our set pieces.

Alnick had nothing to do but certainly didn’t give me much confidence. A keeper will be one of the priorities imo.

We might have a few more points but we still couldn't score or create until very recently, so it won't have changed much. Allsop isn't good but he is not our biggest issue. We'll probably go with Allsop and Alnwick next season, as they've both got a year left.

All this paranoia about Alsop is ridiculous. There is absolutely nothing wrong with him and if we released him, other Championship (or higher) teams would be queuing up to get him. We have one of the better defensive records in the division (goals conceded) and Alsop has gained a number of points for us with his saves. Our problem has been goals scored, nothing to do with Alsop.

11 sides have conceded fewer goals than we have. Our defence is OK but it isn't great. There are a handful of players that are good enough for a top Champ club and Allsop isn't one of them. Nobody would queue up to get Allsop, that's why we got him in the first place.

That cheered me up because if a commentator had quoted that stat about any of our opponents I would have bet my life we’d then concede a couple of goals from corners!

But I’ll take a scrappy goal from a free kick set piece instead!

Alnwick had little to do last night, but he was all over the place whenever the ball came into the six yard box. Neither keeper is good in the air....
I read awhile ago that the manager was casting an eye over a keeper he worked with at Forest - we DO need a better one.t

Find it really hard to believe out of our whole squad of well paid pros that no one appears to be able to kick the ball in the net from 10 yards out….Christ alive it should be standard procedure for anyone getting paid to play

It's also damning of our set piece coaching, but unless all 200+ corners failed to clear the front man, it shows we lack players attacking the ball in the pelanty area.

Yes, has felt awful watching it but statistics like that show just how bad we have become.

What I don't understand is after the first 50 deliveries or whatever why aren't we trying something different?

How does it compare to the rest of the league?

Depending what your definitions are, its between 2% & 4% globally, seen even lower in some metrics at around 1%. 0.5% doesn't seem so bad.
If I was a coach and a corner offered 2 to 4 percent chance of a goal, I'd be focusing in many other areas first before that, seems like a poor return. However, I'd be concerned if we were conceding above the mean, and certainly focus defending (as from the stats that seems easier).

I don’t think he’s as bad as some people say, but I do think he needs to save more, he’s not the best shot stopper. I think the stats say he’s about the worse in the division. Still not the reason we have struggled but a position to improve on for me.

The Rotherham set peice taker looked good. We should buy him when they go down.

What's the deal with Dillon Phillips, has he been getting much game time out on loan?
