Thread: Kaba's contract

    Kaba's contract

Most people seem to think that Kaba is out of contract this summer. I did, however, see a report from Denmark that he has another year left. Can anyone confirm for certain?

    Re: Kaba's contract

He apparently signed a 5-year deal with FC Midtjylland in July 2019.

Their manager was recently asked by the press whether or not he intended to use him next season, but he was non-committal with his answer.

    Re: Kaba's contract

One year left, doubtful he'd sign a new one having received more attention being here, plus expressed desire to play in English structure.

If we're not under an embargo and can buy players, can't see them holding out for too much given so little time left, plus can sign pre-contract in Jan and leave for nothing in summer. Some income better than none. If we are under an embargo, Tans other club could theoretically buy him then loan him to us.

I’ll be honest, he has been a god send to stay up.

I’m unsure if I would want him permanently.

I looked it up yesterday. His contract expires in 2024. So I'd imagine Midtjylland will be looking to move him on for a fee.

That sounds like a recipe for disaster

Didn’t we do something like that for Zohore

And Watford have spinned millions between their owners clubs.

Ah right. Not much chance of him staying then.

He’d be a worse purchase than Lex Immers

It’s an interesting one. All the indications are his parent club will cash in on him if they can and he seems very keen to stay in the Championship, so I wouldn’t rule it out. But of course the embargo (if there is one) is an issue, as is a fee even if City are not under an embargo.

A season-long loan isn’t out of the question, but there’s probably only a small chance of that. I reckon he could well end up at another Championship club next season.

I read something (probably on Wales Online) saying that Midtjylland would want to cash in on Kaba this summer rather than loan him out again, but the Danish hack they were speaking to also said that their new coach is likely to introduce an approach more suited to Kaba’s style of play and so there’s a possibility that he’ll stay with his parent club.

Kaba has made it plain his dream is playing in the English league structure. Having played with us, unlikely he's going to want to go back to a lower standard. Given his documented spats with the club, it's not much of a stretch to think they might not want a disgruntled Kaba running his deal down whilst being a PITA.

It all depends. If he makes it plain he'd only, for example, play for us then he's got no monetary value to his club. Maybe releasing on a free would be one option, lowering their wage bill. Maybe Tan buying him for another club, loaning to us would be another. Maybe embargo being lifted and we could buy would be another.

A lower standard? I wouldn’t fancy our chances much against Midtjylland.

If they could beat us (admittedly not a hard feat) it would be in front of 8.8K rather than 18K or more

The lad seems to like attention.

I don't think you'd fancy our chances against a Helen Keller XI.

We've a squad that's been underperforming in a league of a higher standard than the Danish Superliga.

If there's one thing I hate is people using Helen Keller's name in jest.
Helen Adams Keller (June 27, 1880 – June 1, 1968) was an American author, disability rights advocate, political activist and lecturer. Born in West Tuscumbia, Alabama, she lost her sight and her hearing after a bout of illness when she was 19 months old. She then communicated primarily using home signs until the age of seven, when she met her first teacher and life-long companion Anne Sullivan. Sullivan taught Keller language, including reading and writing. After an education at both specialist and mainstream schools, Keller attended Radcliffe College of Harvard University and became the first deaf blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in the United States.

Immers scored 0 goals for us in 13 games. Kaba has scored 8 in 15. Please explain your rationale. It makes no sense whatsoever to me.

That’s exactly how we got Zohore. We were under a transfer ban for financial irregularities at the time and Kortrijk (Tans club) bought him and loaned him to us on the last day of the season. That’s often why owners have more than one club - to massage FFP figures and avoid situations like ours.

    Re: Kaba's contract

On reflection, they won't get much for him.

If he could play the position his physique suggests then they would, but he can't play up top on his own, he is a turnover machine. He gets away with it because he can score goals and that is a valuable commodity but his hold-up play is worse than Harris and Watters.

So you are playing a variation of 442, which is great as I am old school but the new generation of managers don't like to be seen doing it.

Most media quote €2m -€3m as his transfer fee. I think a top half Championship club would pay more than that for him.
