What's the worst injury you have ever had ?

In response to the plight of Adams and his torn pectoral muscle ....

    Torn ankle ligaments

    Neath Port Talbot Hospital

    2016

Operation was a walk in the park , the rehab was a nightmare

Still get twinges now 7 years later

I wish I had done it in a midfield ball winning tackle but I was fishing down the beach and tripped over a boulder

Ruptured achillies playing squash in 1996. Less than 12 months later took up 5 aside and played for 22 years until I ruptured a quad tendon. Ended my career.

A couple of dislocated fingers and the odd muscle pull aside those were my two big ones.

I did have back surgery in 1999 to fix sciatica (had a disc trimmed) but that wasn't through a sporting injury.

Sciatica is a git , I get mild bouts but it's bearable

A bloke I know runs a fishing shop and couldn't get out of bed for 3 weeks

I think I have a touch of sciatica at the moment - fortunately not too bad, and only really after sitting for a while in a couple of different seats

    Pain was unbelievable.

Torn ligaments & fractured knee cap, deliberate foul in 1974. Still got the dent in my knee cap. A few broken ankles since when playing but that was the worst. Get more trouble with my left knee now whereas the 1974 incident was my right knee.

Paper cut sustained at work in 1994. Excruciating.
First tore ankle ligaments about 30 years ago and they've been awful since. After the last episode the doctor, looking at my xray, described my ligaments as threadbare.

Broken ribs while playing in goal in the Cardiff and District League.

Does mentally scarred after Sunday's match count?

Broken ankle playing football in 2004 - went up for a header and came down in the middle of 2 defenders and snap.
Complete with scar and metal plate inserted and 6 months out and on crutches.

First game back after 5 mins scored a curler with that foot - good as new.

Broken both Clavicles at different times, had a proximal humerus fracture at the humeral head (that hurt and wasn't funny at all) tore the ligaments on my thumb, 100's of stitches over the years.

Took a bit of time off for recovery for the thumb and humeral head, loved those five weeks off piece of piss, played darts, and had a laugh with the boys, the best five weeks at work ever

I broke both thumbs tobogganing down a steep grassy hill in a plastic bread crate when I was twelve
Worse was Mr Connors the deputy head who also impersonated a medical professional insisted they were merely dislocated and spent twenty minutes trying to pop them back in 😭

    Fractured eye socket playing cricket

Generally broke a few bones playing cricket and football but the eye socket was the worst

Broke my left collarbone playing rugby aged 9 - broke the right collarbone, also playing rugby aged 40.
Tore my left rotator cuff in a motorbike accident two years ago - had a partial tear of the right rotator cuff whilst pulling my arm away quickly after getting an electric shock (the older you get, the more likely you are to easily damage a rotator cuff).

Torn scapholunate ligament in both wrists. First injury detected late, complex surgery, major rehab, took nearly 2 years to recover. Other wrist detected too late to repair so bones floating around. First injury started CRPS which was a horror story. All this came from a fall and putting hands out and then playing tennis some time afterwards. Would have been better off falling on my face. Sport is dangerous on top of this fecked ankle ligaments and knees from skiing and knees originally from soccer. Now got a TKR which is a right nuisance at airport security.

Dislocated shoulder playing in a Sunday League game. Excruciatingly painful and quite traumatic. Having said that, the injection of valium they gave me before the specialist came to fix it were two of the happiest couple if hours of my life !

Twisted testicle when I was a teenager. Woke up screaming one morning. Couldn't explain it to my mum, had to wait for my dad to arrive on the scene.

I had sciatica for a month back in 1998 - walked around as if I was looking for a lost tenner, could not stand straight.
At the end of that month, I suffered a stroke. Did the sciatica contribute to my high blood pressure? Maybe, will never know.
After a stroke, it's very easy to fall over.
First cracked a few ribs. This became a recurring theme.

Two years in, broke my tibia and fibula - still have a metal rod in the tibia.
In 2007, had a bad fall onto my arm - the arm landed on the floor, my body on top of the arm, arm had nowhere to go but into my ribs. These ribs never healed properly, get aches and pains if I'm standing (or even sitting upright) for any length of time.
2014, tripped over lawnmower cable, fractured kneecap - this was probably the worst, certainly most painful injury.
Had an op to wire it together, two years later another op to remove wires as the ends were digging into my quad muscles.

and a fractured elbow and wrist, plus numerous unmentioned cracked ribs which DID heal.

    Take your pick.

P.S. After the stroke, the sciatica "got in the way" of physiotherapy.
So a physio put me on my back, compressed the affected leg up over my torso, wiggle, wiggle - sciatica gone!
Had that been done a few weeks earlier, would I have avoided the stroke? Maybe - will never know.

Jesus that's a rough period, hopefully on the mend for good now

Fractured pelvis (and a few scratches/bruises) on Mothers Day 1967 when an articulated lorry jack knifed and the tail end launched me off the pavement to the gutter some 50 metres down the road.

    Sciatica is horrible.

I had it a few years ago and was often doubled up in agony, I was in a record shop when someone in there suggested I visited Jeff Hemmerman. He did sort it out, but still go monthly to keep on top of it.

I snapped my achilles playing football about 10 years ago, then suffered some complications with it. All fixed now but never the same again.
