This thread is on page 2 now and I still don't understand

However I did Google it and it appears its to do something with low effort.

So as west ham won 3 1 you were either saying they won 3 1 really easily or you posted it when Leeds were 1 up. Am I close?

A while back I also didn't know what pegging meant, so I googled that. Google then thought I was interested in stuff not related to hanging out the washing.
I may have got this wrong but when I was a nipper I remember a gypsy woman knocking on our door and asking if I "wanted a pegging ". All makes perfect sense now..

This canard that "soccer" is an Americanism is getting old. When I was a kid, which was a very long time ago, my little friends didn't knock on the door and ask if I could come out to play "football." It was "soccer."

I lived in America for six months...I must say I had no idea what the phrase 'phoning it in' meant!

    Learn something new every day.

That said I am no more likely to use that than yo say that someone is the 'winningest' team.

It's a stupid phrase no one uses it in the UK.

Great clip - you forget how bad the pitches were back then.

Other things that come back to you - one keeper in a flat cap, the other in baggy tracksuit bottoms, picking the ball up from a back pass, 3 around the ball at a kick off, and all the players in long sleeves. Loads fans come on the pitch after a goal - one nearly jogged to the halfway line with the players after the 3rd.

About 5 years before my time but lovely to see us batter someone and with a 'young John Toshack' as they referred to.

PS I've never heard of phoning it in either so not sure if I'm wilfully ignorant or just ignorant

I remember saying to a work colleague I was just going to “chill” for the weekend. She didn’t have a clue what I was talking about. It’s a normal UK saying now.

Little me gave "Tosh" many a slap on the back before hoofing it back to the Grange End.
