CONFIRMED: Karlan Grant on his way...are City having a go...?

It seems City aren't just looking for safety in the coming season, their ambitions appear to be much higher than that.

Where's Bale, has he been keeping in shape

    He's a goal scorer that's for sure

Grant scored three Championship goals last season - the same number as Mark Harris.

He'd struggle to get a game now.

Signed for 15 million a couple of seasons ago.

Probably others I can't think of but what players have we ever signed who have had that much money spent on them?

Yeah he has previously shown he can score goals at this level though. We have to hope he can reproduce previous form.

Lets face it we cant pay fees so its gambles on loans , frees and cast offs.

Grant im optimistic is a decent option and more likely to score than Harris.

Undoubtedly, he’s shown he can score at this level, so it’s a sensible option. Same with Meite if he rediscovers his form and fitness. But people don’t half get carried away.

Grant's stats at this level are:

    110 (+30) appearances, 41 goals

A decent record for sure and he's only 25 (his 26th birthday is in September).

Apparently, Carlos Corberan doesn't fancy him at all. According to the press in the Midlands: 'the move will see City pick up the vast majority of Grant’s significant wages.' He signed for West Brom on a six-year contract in October 2020 while they were in the Premier League.

Hopefully, he'll have a much better season than he did in 2022/23. His last Championship goal for Albion was scored way back in August 2022 in a 1-1 draw at Wigan.

Stats are not everything though ,look at Victor Gyökeres, a moderate career up until last season.

A change of club may do him good.

Indeed. If someone’s statistics are great wherever they go, that signifies top grade talent.

But inconsistent statistics can mean anything:

    1. Temporary lack of form
    2. Low motivation
    3. Issues in personal life
    4. Doesn’t get on with coach
    5. Doesn’t fit system with last team
    6. Chemistry didn’t work with recent players

Strikers in particular. Liverpool signed Belgian international Benteke from Villa on the back of good stats. Didn’t fit Brendan Rogers style - failure

Diego Forlan. Cracking Uruguayan striker. Dirge initially for United

Examples are abound. The guy can clearly score. The question is will the system work for him and wik the players in midfield provide the service to meet his skillset. If those are in place, he stands a good chance of doing well.

In fact, Gyokeres scored 17 Championship goals for Coventry in 2021/22 and 21 in 2022/23.

Grant has also had two really good seasons at this level - 2019/20 at Huddersfield (19 goals) and 2021/22 at West Brom (18 goals). Let's hope last season's poor stats were the result of a temporary loss of form rather than a genuine decline.

Mate told me we signed Karlan Grant, I said Karl and Grant who? He said Karl and Grant from West Brom. We signed two players from West Brom? No, just Karlan Grant. I said Karl and Grant who?

    Sorry, bit bored.

Grant didn’t play up front last season, was either out on the left or right wing apparently.

We have at least tried to solve the issues in the forward areas early doors this season. We certainly have options, let’s hope they discover their form and we have a bit more in the final third.

Bloody ekkers like, we're on course to be one of the big boys of the league again with nothing to fear going into the season for the first time in absolute yonks. Puts a bounce back in the step of the fan base this summer!

Have a mate who a baggies fan - they still have forgiven us for Zohore. He doesnt have much to say about Grant - other than that he runs about a bit and falls over. Hope he's wrong

They finally got rid of Zohore this week. He's just joined Śląsk Wrocław on a free transfer
