When i was a teenager it was Godfrey Ingram. The excitement soon wore off.

Many moons ago when we signed striker Micky Burns from Newcastle for quite a big fee at the time. Had scored loads for them but was awful for us and left to go back up north after a handful of games.
Gosh yes, I had forgotten him but like you was very excited about his signing at the time. Gordon Owen was another but Bellamy was certainly the biggest one

Yes, Spencer Prior seemed a real statement of intent and yet within a short time his limitations, even at League One level, were becoming apparent.
No surprises with me though, Bellamy followed by Fowler - I was quite blasé about the player that we should have got really excited about, Peter Whittingham.
I remember being incredibly excited about Richard Langley signing, how wrong I was. But yes Bellamy was easily the most exciting.
As an adult, Bellamy, but the excitement and shock of City signing John Charles - at one time the best player on the planet - in 1963 was second-to-none. At 32 he was past his peak however, and I just home it's not a case of deja vu..
