Nuts. Modern top flight football is beyond insanity.
remember when they were competing with us and chesterfield for promotion from the basement division
We need to review the Toshack transfer
What a shame we couldn't have stayed in the Premier and have kicked on with our development. It could have been us dealing with those sort of figures now.
Brighton decided to do it properly, invest in young talent and develop it, develop a modern playing style etc and when it wasn't working out they stuck to their guns and in the end it started paying off..
there is no way if we had stayed up under Warnock we would have been adopting that kind of approach and secondly, history shows us that if we did try to modernise in this way we would have ripped it all up at the first bump in the road
Is he that good?
He's proven in the league but surely on the continent there's others who are similar but would cost far less, like £60m
Pays to shop around
Will be interesting to see how Brighton do now that they've lost both Caicedo and MacAllister
Iwan Roberts said on EJFOF yesterday that he thinks Declan Rice is over priced for the positions he plays in, so, no doubt. he'll feel the same about his team paying more for Calcedo.
I see Harry Kae's having a medical with Bayern as well.
He’s a decent player but that’s crazy money for him.
Other players Brighton have sold in the last few years…
Marc Cucurella - Chelsea - £65m
Ben White - Arsenal - £58m
Alex Max Allister - Liverpool - £42m
Yves Bissouma - Spurs - £29m
Leandro Trossard - Arsenal - £24m
Robert Sanchez - Chelsea - £23m
Dan Burn - Newcastle - £15m
They are certainly doing something right.
I'm so old I remember when Liverpool wouldn't pay that for Bellingham and Klopp was having his usual moan about how they didn't have the finances to compete with Newcastle and City, Caicedo is a decent player with potential to keep growing but an absolutely mad amount of money.
They've paid it because they've got a few weeks out before the season, realized they don't have the squad needed to challenge for the Champions League and they needed to price Chelsea out, but surely no sane way to run a football club.
To be fair klopp acknowledged that comment today, and said that everything changed after they sold Henderson and Fabinho, and they suddenly had the money they didn't have for Bellingham.
Klopp on previous comments on not spending £100M on one player: "Everything changed. Do I like it? No. Did I realise I was wrong? Yes."

Nice of him to acknowledge it, but he's ended up with by far the inferior player. Also, the Prem had better hope there's another league out there after the Saudi's lose interest to buy their unwanted players at ridiculous prices and bail them out of the FFP issues of their own making... the whole thing stinks to high hell.
Looks as if Caicedo wants to go to Chelsea as he had previously agreed personal terms with them.
