    Justice done.

Scrolling through twitter there's hardly anyone who thinks this was the correct decision. If there wasn't a sudden change in direction Farrell would have hit Basham at the same height, but on the other side. He made no attempt to either wrap his arms, or tackle in a lower position. Thought this was all about player safety. It clearly isn't if they think Farrells technique is still acceptable.

Totally corrupt. They "questioned the player in detail". What a joke. He's got previous and nobody who saw the contact, even the English commentators, believed it to be anything other than a red card. To be fair to many England fans online, they believe the decision to be shameful too.

Seen it again now. Yes its an obvious red. I thought hed been pushed into it.

Had a few when I saw it Saturday.

The only plus point is that he's a very average rugby player so I'm not too unhappy that England keep picking him.

They have also thrown their new review committee completely under the bus.

Their statement is damming on the reviewer saying his decision was 'dreadful'. If that was the case, how can it go ahead on the world cup?!

Re: Same Old English Alway's Cheating

No attempt to wrap = no mitigation permitted so it is a baffling one. It's created a real issue for the world cup too as they will need to keep justifying why lesser offences are red cards and this will continually be brought up. Also if Farrell actually completes his mission and removes somebody's head, he will have been playing because the panel made this decision.

A crazy, illogical and plain wrong decision. Should have been a straight 3 match ban.

It’s really not in my nature to see someone hurt playing the game they love, but I really hope someone takes him out big style in his next game.

I’m waiting for Taine Basham to be banned for head butting Farrells shoulder

    Is it that bad ?

    Thuggery has always gone on

Paul Ringer flattened Horton of England and got a red ?

Plenty of opportunity for thuggery in rugby , always has been

Welsh prop , taken out with that dirty head butt by the French forward ......he was off balance and it shifted his weight and it broke his leg

Ricky something ......part time fireman .....had to retire the break was so severe

Farrell is a dirty git but all sides have these thugs ?

And these days they usually get banned. But not Farrell.

2 offences in the same year should be a 6 game ban. mitigation could be pleaded to reduce that but he had none

I recall a similar thread about Farrell several years back after a similar incident. Apologists on here explained that his father was a bit of a bully and put pressure on Farrell to play the hard man. Somehow I don't think that argument will wash anymore!

All red cards should be recinded for world cups to allow fans to enjoy the best on the world stage ,the red cards can be reinstated for domestic use.

Yes Paul Ringer got a red card and was banned from rugby for a year. If my memory serves me right he played football for the year to keep fit.

Not that such a system is in place in Rugby Union but if a ban was due to an accumulation of yellow cards as in football, your point may be valid. But when the game is trying to stamp out play that is deemed dangerous to an opponent and make no mistake, this was extremely dangerous, the perpetrator must face the consequence of his actions, even if that involves missing World Cup games. I can only think that Farrell must have been represented by O J Simpson's lawyer.
