Absolutely, if he continues to improve we could get a decent transfer fee in the future

That’s great news, well done City and Mark - I heard him called City’s best defender on EJFOF today, it’s hard to argue with that.

I think that also says a lot about our defensive options. Who else could replace McGuinness? Nobody. He's started this season well enough but was not great for much of last season. Fingers crossed he'll keep improving. We need it.

Agreed. McGuinness is showing good potential at 22 but he needs to keep pushing on

Sheffield Wednesday fans would disagree with you there I suspect. He came back from there in very good form and improved our team, only for him to be submerged in the home form ailment that drags the whole club down, his form fell away towards the end of the season, but the alternative of letting his contract wind down doesn't bear thinking about.

This is excellent news and we have Mad Mick to thank for signing him.

    Re: Mark Mcguinness

My thought are he's probably the only player in our squad with PL potential.

Mad Mick knew a thing or two (or five in his case) about Centre halves

didn't Mick give him his debut as a right wing back though?

The defensive line-up that day was:

    Bagan, Flint, Nelson, McGuinness, Ng.

    Surely McGuinness wasn't at wing-back?

I thought he signed as a 'development' player rather than first team, so not a MM signing?

ah yeah he played him as a centre back in his first game, then he was out of the side for a while and brought him back in against West brom as a wing back, presumably at the height of his centre back mania.

so not his debut, but possibly his 2nd and 3rd appearances

    Re: Mark Mcguinness

Now if Bulut can just stop him passing 5 yard balls back to the keeper from in side his own 6 yard box with a striker bearing down on him

Let's not forget McGuiness was playing in League 1 for Wednesday, but did very well there.

When I look at our centre back pairing, I don't think they are as good as Loovens and Johnson, Bamba and Morrison, Turner and Hooch. McGuiness is our top centre back, which doesn't say much for Goutas. Simpson is third choice which is very scary. It's an area that worries me.
