Punk was in danger of passing me by until I saw this single in the cheap box in the local record shop (50p). Took it home, played it non-stop for a few hours and then ran with it up to my mate's house and did the same thing there. Couple of months later I took my entire record collection up to a shop who's name I can't recall in Notting Hill Gate and sold the lot. Changed my life that record.

well i find the whole punk scene fascinating I remember all the main players of that genre but i was just slightly to young to fully appreciate it in 76 . Looking back it did break boundaries and the music scene did change from that moment on

Do you regret selling all your vinyl back then ?

I prefer the oi genre of punk and been going to gigs the last 2 years and still most sell out especially the festival types . Couldn't get to this years rebellion in Blackpool but hoping to do it next year

As i,m in a mood following our defeat today going to play the band that gave us the Eddie May chant to cheer me up

    I said what's his name ...........

I used to be very sniffy about tribute bands but I've seen quite a few now and they are generally great fun. The Smyths are superb. I'd have gone myself but I'm getting over a persistent cough.

    Re: Anarchy in the UK

A lot of punk bands made a living by embracing the attitude

    But they couldn't play

And ended up being tory boys which was ironic 🙄

a bit apprehensive at first after seeing the smiths 3 times back in the 80's but yes a great night in front of a capacity audience and very energetic too !

the opening riffs of Bigmouth strikes again still make the hairs on my neck stand up !

Now i know how joan of arc felt ...........................

Thought that album was bollox at the time and 50 odd years later my opinion hasn't changed. But what do I know - at the time I was into Ozzy, The Stranglers, Zeppelin, The Clash and a bit of Ska

And you are, what, in your mid 50s? You must have been a precocious child! I guess that when the rest of the class were singing "The Wheels on the Bus" you were in the corner air guitaring to Paranoid.

I remember the chants of City, City, the smashed glass and the police in the foyer and outside after the gig.

Not punk, but I am surprised this band never made it big. I think they got overwhelmed by Britpop, which was just a few months away. Ace guitar playing though ...
