Thread: Ads on here

    Ads on here

Is it just me or have they gone a bit crazy in the last week. It's like playing Tetris with all the boxes popping up.

Carwow in particular. Please tell carwow Mike that on principle I shall never buy or sell a car from them now.

    Thanks

Pornhub, whisky and the odd amazon advert, not sure it's really suitable for a family friendly football forum.

    Re: Ads on here

I'd add the recent intrusion of adverts on YouTube, which has destroyed its viewing pleasure.

You can be watching, say, a full concert by Joe Bonamassa or an instruction video for a hobby project (like knitting ) and at the start and at regular intervals the video is ruined by a pop-up for 'sponsor a donkey' or 'make a will'.

Yes, you can buy a dedicated ad-blocking app (which I'm not about to do). You can click the ad to leave after a short time (although many run on to their end and can't be stopped).

'Tis all about money of course. The YouTube revenue stream is decreasing and because it's not making so many £millions, it is taxing the ad-blocking viewer.

I'm with James Wales here and will not buy the products advertised. Bugger the donkeys! YouTube admin and their advertisers need to understand that the ads create antipathy to the advertised products.....folk will stop or reduce their viewing and so revenue will drop more. And contributors may think twice about using YouTube. It's a Lose/Lose situation.

Adverts there have noticeably increased, I'm not sure whether the frequency is controlled by the content maker though.

The free premium month I had recently was blissful. Not sure I'd want to pay monthly for it myself on top of everything else but it certainly has value, particularly if someone watches a lot of it.

Use Ublock Origin https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock and Sponsorblock https://github.com/ajayyy/SponsorBlock

Ublock Origin blocks the ads (works best in firefox but is more than capable with chromium based browsers) and Sponsorblock skips the sponsored sections in videos.

I use AdBlock and it works just fine. I never see ads on this site. Also, if you're getting ads for Pornhub and whisky, you might want to clear your browsing history and cookies.

Is this a confession to say you've cleared your browser history because of Pornhub ads?

Ad free using a browser on the PC due to use of ad blockers, on my fone however, which i cannot be arsed to install free ad blockers which use ads!!!!! to force you into buying the app, the ads on here are becoming well OTT.

I recommend one of these routers with Ad block and Wireguard built in 👍

Anybody recommend something that works with Chrome on an iPad, I’d be very grateful. Adblock plus doesn’t work, at all. I currently get around 80-90% ads on every page and a full page ad between the front page & a thread opening.

This site is particularly bad - and I know that's not down to MM, but the people who run it. A few weeks ago, we were complaining how slow it was, now it's a bit quicker, but the adverts are everywhere. It is very annoying.

I have it installed, it doesn't block anything at all.

Correct - it does not work on ipads since safari13.
As for Chrome: Google is resuming a plan to phase out older Chrome extensions, including the one for uBlock Origin. The phaseout will start in June 2024, when Google begins disabling older Chrome extensions built with the “Manifest V2” system.Nov 17,

I don't use Chrome - I try to avoid anything to do with Google or Microsoft. Just use a different browser.
I use Firefox...and NO ads anywhere......but there are others out there...Brave is very good.
