Just what is your point? Are you saying that the BBC fiddled the vote, those who voted for Mary Earps are idiots or there’s no way a woman footballer should win such an award?
Are you ill or something Bob, or having a senior moment or something?

I'm saying someone posted an un-impartial link to a leftie Guardian columnist who is married to a BBC director, so that view should be ignored, it's not rocket science, now go and write your report from that fantastic Christmas Bonus Smash and grab win, and I give you my permission to use that heading

I like women where have I said I don't like women?

That was a post about impartiality?

I'm not misogynist because I thought they may have been better female or male sports personalities.

If we're force fed it the way we have been then that may change but its shyte and no amount of woke wankers on here will change that.

I ask again, what point are you trying to make? It’s a simple enough question.

That a BBC Directors wife won't write an impartial account of the criticism of the BBC Sports Personality of the Years award????

It's like asking you who is the best Rishi or Drippy, if anyone were daft enough to take your view as gospel then they would be stupid because you have a massive bias.

So, it’s a “massive bias” to accept the outcome of a public vote? You and others like you are turning a sporting popularity contest into a political argument - I make it that Mary Earps is the sixteenth women to win the award - why weren’t the gammons getting so worked up about the previous fifteen (a woman footballer won it last year as well)?

Resorting to childish attempts at insults, although I am not angry in the slightest, you sound it

I've never said women shouldn't win it, from past memories every one probably deserved it and I had heard of them, I just didn't know who Mary Earps was or the one last year that completely passed me by, not sure who she was either.

If she won it's great I'm happy for her, people that like that sort of thing voted great, I just don't know her and think the programme has changed format which is what the post was about?

Her article really isn't about the BBC though, so that's largely irrelevant. The SPOTY could be hosted by ITV or Channel 4, and the ridiculous response would be the same in my opinion. Earps is quite a big character, a bit 'gobby' on the pitch, and I reckon that winds up a few men. Did other women or men achieve more in the year, probably, but so what, she certainly also achieved a fair amount and is a great advert for women's football. Maybe, just maybe, loads of young girls voted for her in what a public decided competition?

Mary Earps - Never heard of her
    Winner
Rory McIlroy - World famous one of the best golfers in the World
    Nominee
Alfie Hewett - Never heard of him
    Nominee
    Stuart Broad - Famous
    Nominee
    Frankie Dettori - Very famous
    Nominee
    Katarina Johnson-Thompson is Famous
    Nominee

It seems like a mix of famous people and a few that aren't famous, why don't they do six famous people these days?

Anyway not bothered never have and never will watch it, it sounds rubbish, and for a limited small selection of people who must like these types of shows.

Well we can agree to disagree, she maybe wouldn't have written it if people were knocking ITV, or maybe joined in saying the show was rubbish?

Just pointing out people show a bias to their wifes or husbands, I would to my Mrs, nothing wrong with that we all do it.

Not sure about Mary Earps as had never heard of her before, but out of the six she won, so good luck to her

To be honest I didn't read it, just saw it was from some Guardian writer and googled her as the wife of a BBC Director that told me enough.

So you wrote multiple posts questioning the integrity of the author of the article but didn't even read it? She does actually write that she thinks it's highly unlikely that the BBC would rig the vote, so I guess you could argue there that she's showing bias. But more likely is that she's just using an ounce of common sense. She also calls on those making those accusations to go ahead and follow up on them, so she's hardly side stepping anything either.
I also have no interest in this award show. Same for any award show actually, music, film, tv. Not my thing at all, but the reaction to who won it by a lot of usual suspects is not surprising and should be called out, as Hyde has done very well here.

So the one who, in your mind isn't famous, won.

Here's a question for you - how was an Italian chap included in the list, but a famous Norwegian footballer included in the world list?

    What are you on about?

Marina Hyde is a columnist. She has written an opinion piece - not a Supreme Court Judgement. In my opinion it is funny, astute and worth a read. I broadly agree with her (broadly - not Broadly!). That is why I posted the link.

You can agree or disagree with her opinion. Based on reading many of her three columns a week for the Guardian, I don't get the impression she is a mouthpiece for the BBC. Nor was she for the Sun when she wrote for them. Nor a propagandist for Piers Morgan who was her 'best friend' if not more a decade or so ago.

She is someone who writes sharp, satirical, opinion pieces. I like them - some don't. Agree or disagree with what she writes. But why make it out to be some kind of PR hatchet job on behalf of the BBC when it is just a response to a certain type of hyperventilating stale, male, older, caucasian keyboard warrior with an inferiority complex (of the Joey Barton, Richard Keys model). Didn't hit home did it?

Well worth posting it though. Got more of a reaction than I expected!

Come on now chaps, North Cardiff Blue is so ‘not bothered’ by this situation that he’s posted about 30 times on this thread emphasising that he’s ’not bothered’. Give some credit to someone who’s dedicated a fair bit of time on a subject to tell you that it certainly doesn’t bother him

    Re: Mary Earps

This is a divisive thread and should be locked, no good can come of it.

I'd never heard of Mary Earps, but I accept that's on me, I just don't follow women's football. I have nothing against it, there is simply a limit to how much sport I have time to watch (wifey resents every second).

But it is undeniable that the England Ladies Goalkeeper has every right to win this award, especially given there is a public vote.

I think some of the older of us also have to accept that this award represents something different to the younger generations, or at least those who follow it, than it did to the nation in the 70's and 80's. Things change.

I’d never heard of her simply because I don’t follow women’s football, like I don’t follow Scottish football and non-league football (although I do go a watch the latter occasionally)

I only know who Jill Scott and Alex Scott are because they are now in the mainstream media so I looked them up.

I’m suspect that this is the case for lots of people. It isn’t a fault or anything.

I did have to laugh at your comment and on two levels. The disagreement on this thread (and which are part and parcel on message boards) is hardly descending to fighting on the streets. And to then continue with your own comments after suggesting that the threat be locked is highly amusing.

May you have a cool Yule though, old fruit.

I'd hoped my comment was balanced and neutral showing both sides to the debate rather than a strong opinion piece. Sorry if I failed.

    Merry Christmas

I don't think that the thread should be locked, although like everything else on this board, it isn't really going anywhere. The rest of what you say is bang on the money for me.

No only Josie Fishlake the Welsh one, that's the only women footballer I've heard of.

I did see a North Wales Striker in Welcome to Wrexham, but didn't catch the name, as those bits were on fast-forward.

Nonsense it's not even a controversial thread, all I've said is who was the woman that won it!

Never heard of her before I googled her, sounds terrible I'll give her guardian columns a wide birth.
