    Late quiz question

Which two English managers have had the highest finishes in the Premier League?

    Re: Late quiz question

Don’t want to spoil it too early. I may be completely wrong anyway…

But is one of them, someone who was stepping in for someone? (Finishing 2nd)

    Re: Late quiz question

I’ll go with Roy Hodgson and that Potter fella, although it might be Joe Royle or Harry Rednapp

    Re: Late quiz question

    Eddie Howe and Sam Allardyce?

    Re: Late quiz question

Bobby Robson? Did well at Newcastle and got them into the champions league.

And Keegan famously came second for Newcastle.

    Re: Late quiz question

    Keegan?

    Re: Late quiz question

Brendon Rogers with Liverpool and my other guess would be David Moyse, but if you mean the top flight then it would be Howard Wilkinson

    Re: Late quiz question

Keegan with Newcastle I think was the best finish.

Neither are English, and the question specifically says Premier League!

    But other than that...

    That's one.

    Re: Late quiz question

As mentioned earlier, it’s probably someone who did a temporary job - I’m sure it’s not Ryan Mason, but someone like that.

Graham Taylor or Howard Wilkinson with Leeds?

Taylor finished 2nd in 1990. Wilkinson won the league in 1992 but Leeds flopped the season afterwards. However, you're in the right era

Big Ron? No idea what if anything he won but he managed a lot of teams.

Phil Thompson was my initial thought.

Correct. Villa were runner up in the first Premier League season. It's quite something to think that no English manager has finished in the top 2 since 1996.

    Phil Thompson doesn’t count then?

He was caretaker for a few months in a season where Liverpool finished 2nd. Houllier started and ended the season, so I dare say it would be incorrect to credit the 2nd place entirely to Thompson in the same way that Atkinson and Keegan both had full seasons in charge when their respective clubs were runners-up.
