Average position of sides that:

We have beaten: 16
We have drawn with: 13.5
Have beaten us: 8.7

We have scored as many goals against the teams currently positioned 16th and lower as we have against teams 15th and above. Goals scored against the teams 21st and lower account for just over a third of all of our goals.

We have conceded nearly as many goals against the top 6 as we have against the other 17 sides in the Championship. We have kept 2 clean sheets against sides currently in the top half and 5 against sides in the bottom half.

I think that proves that we're a mid table Championship side. We do well against teams nearer the bottom, and thinking back to the days of Dave Jones, that was often an achilles heel, but our record against the current top 6 is very poor, even if we'd have held on at Leeds and Leicester early doors.

We're 25 games into the season. While we might just be 5 points off the playoffs, the more important stat is that we're 13 points above the bottom 3. Tan might think we have a chance of promotion, but he's talking out of his arse again. This season there's been a gulf between the top 5 and the rest. Any other side who sneaks into the playoffs in 6th will be soundly beaten. We're not a top 6 side, regardless of what happens in the transfer window, and that's fine. It's still progress from the last few seasons.

I did an analysis of sides that finished 21st and how they performed the following season. Promotion and top 6 finishes are rarer than Sludge pulling. If we can finish in the top half and improve performances between now and May, surely that's a good season?
