Steve Smith replaces David Warner as Australia Test opener, that’s an interesting idea with his technique

They were saying on the Big Bash commentary this morning that Smith has never opened the batting in his senior career - I remember England trying Joe Root at the top of the innings and they soon abandoned the experiment. It’s a specialist position and, as mentioned, Smith’s technique will be examined as never before - I hope he fails dismally
him opening against bumrah will be interesting
They've tried to accommodate Cameron Green into the team without dropping Mitchell Marsh. Smith offered his services as opener which allowed them to do that.
Where that leaves Cameron Bancrofts chances of a test career I don't know. Maybe he's paying the price for sandpaper gate?
I can’t stand Warner because of the sandpaper incident, that being said , if Bancroft was a better player than Warner then rest assured the role of scapegoat would have been reversed.
Bancroft isn’t that special as a test opener (Ave 26.23) and the fact that they have moved Smith up the order with a calendar year batting average of 39.40 (coupled with all his idiosyncratic mannerisms ) suggests Bancroft will never get his chance.
