    Nat Phillips signed - CONFIRMED

    https://twitter.com/CardiffCityFC/st...91296218448228

    Nat Phillips:

“I think it’s a great stadium, a great city and a big club. I think the club has ambitions to compete, and we’re in a decent position in the league. That made it an exciting move.

“We want to give it a good push for this second half of the season now. I want to play well for the team, and hopefully that will come with success. I spoke to the gaffer about how he wants me and the team to play, and it felt like a good fit.

“I had my first session today, and I enjoyed that. I already feel like I’m settling in nicely with the team, so I’m looking forward to getting going.”

    Erol Bulut:

“Everybody knows Nat from his time in the Championship with Bournemouth, and also with Liverpool. He brings a lot of experience with him.

“He will help us a lot in the defensive shape, and also in our attacking shape to have better build-up from the back. He is good on the ball and he is a big addition in our squad.

“Today it is my birthday, and I have a birthday present from the board, so I would like to thank them. Everybody is working hard, and I hope we can finalise more of what we need in the next few days.”

I’d imagine he’s here for first team football. I wonder if McGuinness will be dropped or Bulut tries a new formation/tactics?

61 appearances at 26 years of age suggests otherwise to me.

McGuiness has been the weak defensive link recently, so a change maybe beneficial

3 at back perhaps unless McGuiness is being offloaded

We needed another CB, I think he will start and my guess would be McGuiness fighting for his place.

I’m thinking from Liverpool’s point of view.

He’s got a year and a half on his contract and clearly has no future at Anfield. Liverpool will want a chunk of cash for him so I can see him being sold in the summer. After 8 appearances for Celtic he’s not going to get them a decent fee if he’s just sat on the bench again at a new club. If he starts ~15 games and looks like a solid Championship player his value shoots up and he’ll get a few bids.

But I hope that he gets in the side on merit, that we're not being used by Liverpool in that way when it might be that he's no better than what we have. Fingers crossed as we need to stop shitting goals

we need more than 2 recognised CBs even if we are sticking with a back 4.

he's a replacement for Panzo, will get his chance to force his way into the team, like the other loanees, but will need to take it

I know we have a shit team, play shit football, but shitting goals? Think that’s a bit of a stinking thing to say.

Think we have shown over the last month or two that multiple players need a rest. If he rotates in with McGuinness and Goutas the rest of the season it can only help and maybe takes a bit of the pressure that has been building, especially with McGuinness.

Why we didn’t do that with Panzo who knows, but Bulut clearly didn’t rate him or something went on behind the scenes.

Good can provide more options for a switch in formation or cover/competition for places.
