Some weird numbers at that time. Teams scored an average of 77 goals that season. Last season in the top flight teams scored an average of 54. We kept only 8 clean sheets that season - we've kept fewer in only 18 other seasons, so it wasn't so much that we had a great defence. We failed to score in 17 games that season - we've only failed to score in more in 6 other seasons. No other side scored fewer than us in the entire league that season. It's one of our feeblest seasons in front of goal, made all the more feeble by the number of goals were being scored at the time.

It's the lowest number of goals we've conceded in a season and been relegated. We conceded 61 in 1981/82 and 62 in 1974/75 and went down. We also conceded 62 in 1959/60 but won promotion!

Leicester City are the only side to have been relegated, in 2007/08 (to League 1), having conceded less than a goal a game, conceding 45 from 46 matches.
