It doesn't take a genius to work out that the squad assembled was both way too big and lacking in the right mix of players, but this fire sale doesn't make sense at all - how is the club saving money by terminating contracts? Surely these players have to be paid off?

If Tan is asset stripping for a sale, he's in real danger of ending up with a League One club, which will surely be worth less than a Championship club. He's on track to lose even more money by getting rid of players who might be in with a chance of sorting out our problems on the pitch.

Can anyone offer a reasonable explanation of what's happening?
