The liberals argument has been, at least in the past, that an increase in collection of information isn't so good if it obscures key information by it's sheer mass. Do we have enough people to make a proper assessment of hundreds of thousands of additional files? How much personal data are they going to be allowed to go through before they find something? It doesn't necessarily keep us safe and sacrifices our civil liberties.
