I need not list some of the great names to grace the Cardiff City number 9 shirt down the years. The last great City player to don the shirt would have been Jay Bothroyd, who last played for us 11 seasons ago. I thought I'd have a look at how well our number 9s have done since then.

9 players have been given the shirt since 2011 - Kenny Miller, Etien Velikonja, Andreas Cornelius, Kenwyne Jones, Frederic Gounongbe, Danny Ward, Robert Glatzel and Jordan Hugill.

Here's their goal tallies:

Kenwyne Jones 18
Robert Glatzel 11
Kenny Miller 11
Danny Ward 5
Jordan Hugill 4
Frederic Gounongbe 0
Andreas Cornelius 0
Etien Velikonja 0

Only Jones and Miller achieved double figures in a single season. 9 times in 11 seasons the Cardiff City number 9 has failed to hit 10, though it needs to be said that any player scoring 10 for us over the last decade has been a rarity.

Appearances per goal:

Kenwyne Jones 3.72
Jordan Hugill 4.50
Kenny Miller 4.55
Robert Glatzel 5.27
Danny Ward 7.20

Minutes per goal:

Kenwyne Jones 231
Danny Ward 256
Robert Glatzel 295
Jordan Hugill 355
Kenny Miller 363

None of those are particularly inspiring statistics.

I've also looked at games played and goals scored by Cardiff City number 9s since Bothroyd left:

Games where a number 9 has played at some point: 256 out of 538 (47.6%)
Minutes played by the number 9s: 14926 out of 44190 (33.8%)
Goals scored by a number 9: 49 out of 694 (7.1%)
