Thread: Newport. Gateway to Hades

    Newport. Gateway to Hades

I jumped on the train with my bike this morning and got off at Newport in order to cycle 5 miles to Usk lighthouse for a short helicopter trip - and I was shocked at what a shitheap I cycled through. I even espied what looked like a stolen car that was upside down and being liberated of its components. However, I am now breathing easily after returning to the leafy glades of Somerset.

I used to think that Bridgwater was a tip .... but it's positively bucolic compared to Nyoops.

Can't disagree with any of that.

Newport really is a shit tip.

Apologies to all that this offends but hopefully we allowed an opinion these days.

My favourite Newport story is about the film location unit that was searching for a post-Armageddon landscape.........

In fairness, the cycle track through Newport couldn't take a worse route.

    Certainly speeds you up 😄

Funny enough I remember reading a travel guide to Wales in an America newspaper a few years back in which they described Newport as "Hells Waiting Room".

Well it would be in the "leafy" shithole of Somerset.

My old home town has indeed seen better days, it has to be said. That said, it's like Monte Carlo in comparison with Cwmbran

    Re: Newport. Gateway to Hades

It reminds me of something I used to hear regularly many years ago which described Splott as "Green fields, set with golden flowers"
That must have taken some imagination

Both dumps these days, while Cardiff has boomed the rest of South Wales has suffered.

Whenever I come back I'm always shocked at the state of the centres of Cwmbran and Newport and the like.
