England squad ahead of the 1st Test against Sri Lanka next week

Cook, Hales, Compton, Root, Vince, Bairstow, Stokes, Moeen Ali, Broad, Anderson, Finn, Ball

I guess Vince has been knocking on the door for some time and with the retirement of Taylor means he finally gets his chance with Bell/Ballance either being injured or showing no improvement in the first few county games. Not seen much of Ball and obviously doubtful he'll play.

Kinda surprised Compton is in there, thought Bayliss would want an attacking batsman at 3 and again he's hardly been great in this first bunch of county games.

Will be at Headingley on Day 3, see you all there yeah?

It is said that the players who won a series in SA have earned another chance.

Ball has been the outstanding bowler in the county season so far, and Finn has been off form. However when push comes to shove they will pick Finn.

Sri Lanka shouldn't really offer much resistance in the longer format, in English conditions.

The thing Finn has in his favour is his S/R, it hovers around 45 which isn't bad.

SL are a different team to the one that toured here in 2014 with no Sanga or Mahela, but with Ford coaching them they'll be desperate to show their worth...
