This has to be one of the funniest things I've ever seen, the BBC advising people on how to avoid 'fake news'
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/38053324
Some of the biggest peddlers of ‘fake news’ and ‘post-truth politics’ out there are saying the same things, here are just a few..
CNN recommended a "triple check before you share" rule, maybe they should take their own advice?

Fake News May Not Be Protected Speech

Don't be fooled by this sudden concern for truth, this is a fake epidemic of fake news, this is an attack on alternative media, google and facebook are already banning 'fake news' web sites from their advertising networks and there are calls for more to be done, you don't have to be a Philadelphia lawyer to work out where this is going..
It looks a bit coordinated to me
I suppose you pick and choose where you get your information.
What sites do you two use?.
Al Monitor is good.
Bloomberg is good for reporting on things. But not for opinion. They release a ridiculous amount.
I'e subscribed to: http://foreignpolicy.com/ Is that ok or is it totally American leaning?.
Most of the BBC stuff is far better than you'll find on unpaid media.
Twitter have also jumped on the "fake news" bandwagon, so it was quite bizzare that when a user discovered a massive 5,000+ child porn ring openly sharing videos and photos, Twitter decided to suspend the person because they reported it!
So far the non-fake news MSM have failed to mention it

Actually the Daily Star of all people decided to report on it - http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/late...media-accounts
I picked those randomly out of the 'fake news' search results, my point is they are all saying the same things, I just selected a few that's all, I've never heard of Al Monitor and I don't use foreignpolicy either.
You must have seen some of my previous posts about the bbc?
I like the idea of there being a relatively honest and believable Mainstream news.
In that respect I like Channel 4 news more than other mainstreams.
Other than that its pick'n'mix and take your chances.
That BBC one is hilarious – not just spotting fake news but how to grass it up. It’s not like the Beeb have ever tried to shape our perception through omission and emphasis is it? Still, at least they don't make stuff up.......
I know some are suspicious of Patrick Henningsen, but I think he's the real deal. I particularly like that he is consciously bi-partizan.
Obama and Merkel's recent rhetoric is quite transparent and terrifying, the subtext for which is about policing free speech the internet. Add this possibility to the now in place "Snoopers charter" and we can be conclusive about what the agenda is.
Far better to rely on trusted news sources like uprootedpalstinians.com or some random Twitter feed from a bloke you've never met
Don't get me started.. again
The old 'threat to democracy' card, Obama “If we are not serious about facts and what’s true and what’s not, if we can’t discriminate between serious arguments and propaganda, then we have problems,”
Weapons of mass destruction spring to mind..
I have never posted a link from that site, this thread is not about main stream news, it's about the epidemic of fake news sites that has flooded facebook and other social media for the last few months, it's a deliberate flood of completely fabricated stories so they can push for more censorship of the internet.
