good player
Apart from Sheffield Wednesday and Villa I cannot think of one Championship team this season that has not based it's transfer spending on receipts from players sold over the past year or so. Since Malky Mackay left, we have been brilliant at signing expensive players who leave for next to nothing. We've got the whole thing arse backwards and, with no sigh yet of us being able to produce our own players who could fund the putting together of a side which would stand a chance of going up, we have to rely on signing players with the potential to be sold at a big profit - I don't see signing players who will be thirty in a few months time as doing that.
It has to be a mixture of solving our immediate problems and looking ahead. 30 is not old.Just where are we expecting these young players to come from most of the young talent is already with top clubs and we have very little coming along at our club.We have to stay up and I trust Warnock to do that.
Presumably Noone is going. He is probably more valuable than this new fella.
With a player at this age it's more a case of looking at value to cost over the length of his contract.
So if he has a 3 year deal and his wages are not high then he could still be good value.
£500k over 3 years equates to about £3k per week.
As for getting players in to sell on, that would be great, but we need points now and also probably don't have the funds available to do much more than deal with short term issues.
It seems that Warnock is involving our own youth players more now, so maybe better to give them a chance than bring in from outside.
Harris was apparently in the squad for Brighton and I don't think it will be long before 1 or 2 others from the decent crop coming through are involved
I don't see why we have to sell noone - we're not going to get much for him as he's in so bad form but he has got the potential
The whole nature of the manager/player merry-go-round is that the so-called potential can be released in the right circumstances. This happens occasionally but, more often, ordinary individuals merely get shipped from one club to another when it is discovered that the individuals concerned are incapable of performing well and consistently wherever they go.
Cardiff make third bid for Hayes

Aberdeen are refusing to comment on reports Cardiff City have tabled a third bid for midfielder Jonny Hayes.
The Dons have rejected two bids from Cardiff, two differently structured offers of £500,000, for Hayes, who has 18 months remaining on his Pittodrie deal.
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes said both offers fell well short of his club’s valuation of the player and urged Cardiff to get serious with an offer if they want Hayes.
Cardiff have reportedly tested Aberdeen’s resolve by making a third offer, this time of £600,000. The Dons say their manager will address the reported offer at his pre-match press conference tomorrow before the Celtic game on Wednesday.
However, Hayes is still at Pittodrie training with his team-mates and it seems unlikely he will be leaving unless the offer is substantially increased.
Bluebirds manager Neil Warnock is desperate to add to his squad before the English transfer window closes at 11pm tonight. The Scottish window closes at midnight.
Cardiff made an approach for another attacking midfielder on Sunday, Blackburn Rovers’ Liam Feeney, but Wanderers manager Owen Coyle rejected the bid for the 30-year-old.
