Is this the greatest ever scientific instrument? Been floating around in orbit since 1990, and been our window to the universe. Apparently they ****ed up big time when they first launched it, and had to go back up n give it a pair of spectacles, but when it finally blinked, it gave us views we could only imagine. Will be a sad day, when they finally burn it up in Earth's orbit.......but it's replacement, the James Webb telescope promises to take things to a whole new level. They better get it right the first time though, its orbit will be a million miles out, so no second chance. Anyway, can you think of a better scientific instrument than the Hubble telescope?
This great video is over 10 years old now but there might be some on here who haven't seen it.
The Most Important Image Ever Taken
There's some great vids on ewe tube from the space station looking down
I was reading about another telescope that will be after the James Webb.
This one will actually be 3 separate satellites that will work in conjunction with each other, 2 with the optics and the third to cast a shadow from the sun to stop that interfering with the image.
This way they can get a huge distance between the lenses without having to launch a ridiculously large rocket.
I read an article the other week saying the International Space Station will be coming
down to Earth in about 2024. Not sure why.
