"The locals name for Caroline street"
Is it feck!!
I love the bit about Welsh Breakfast in the market ,last time I blinked it was a bacon or sausage buttie, very nice though I must say ,and cracking value.
2 long years in Uni fighting the Caroline Street cause will not die in vain because of UEFA, #againstmodernfoodstreetnames
I'm local, I've never been a student and it's Caroline Street
I prefer Caroline Street, but I don't mind Chippy lane as an alternative (although it's much less chippyish or lane like than in its heyday).
The guy I sit next to in work though calls it "chip shop alley" which is completely unacceptable behaviour.
this is a list of acceptable names that can be used for describing Caroline Street
1. Caroline Street
I grew up 5 mins walk from there by the Avana Bakery in Grangetown and I've always called it chippy lane. So does everyone I know, as well as calling it Caroline Street. It's when people come out with 'chip alley ' that does my head in..
Chippy Lane is an English invention to make us sound thick(er than normal).
I also believe that the same people who invented 'Chippy Lane' are also behind things like 'I loves the Diff' and daffodil hats. An attack on the working classes in my opinion.
Although I despise anything other than Caroline Street, I did hear a story that Chippy Lane derived from the old nickname Cheapy Lane. This comes from historical references to people seeking the cheapest food in the area.
Chip Alley for us Bridgend boys
It's also Chippy Lane on the Cardiff underground map.
