    Internet Clampdown Coming

Number 10 gave a strong hint to reporters that new anti-terror measures to tackle online extremism - including far-right radicalisation - could be in the Queen’s speech on Wednesday.

Last week, May announced a UK-French initiative to explore creating a new legal liability for tech companies if they fail to remove inflammatory content, which could include penalties such as fines.

May also pledged during the election campaign that the government would develop tools with tech companies to crack down on online extremism.

On Monday after May met community leaders in Finsbury Park following the van attack on worshippers leaving the mosque, Downing Street said the reforms were a priority for the government “Extremism takes many forms and she has spelled out as a couple of weeks ago that we have plans to crack down on extremism, there is extremism on the internet of all kinds and we’ll be focusing on extremism of all kinds,” the prime minister’s spokesman said “She was very clear that we are going to bring this work forward and we are going to focus on all forms of extremism.”

Downing Street would not commit to the final package being announced in the Queen’s speech however. “We are going to bring forward this work soon,” the spokesman said.
    Any predictions?

Now the solution has it's problem! May has been banging on about censoring the internet since her days as home secretary.

I also remember Cameron once gave a definition of online extremism, and it was basically anybody with an opinion that didn't agree with his.

It will start off as laws that target extremism and people will be happy because terrorists are being caught,

Then the laws will be applied to non-terrorists and people will ignore it or say "That's the price for my children's safety". Some will complain (probably liberals) and these people will be accused of allowing extremism to exist. The liberals will argue back after which we will hear the line "Nothing to hide, nothing to fear" or "the Government doesn't care if you are watching porn" or some other nonsense like that.

Terrorism will continue and we'll rewind the tape and play it all over again for some new laws.

We can be sure the reforms won't affect people's ability to update their Facebook profile. Which'll ensure a muted response.

Didn't this government try to ban more unusual porn?

The liberals argument has been, at least in the past, that an increase in collection of information isn't so good if it obscures key information by it's sheer mass. Do we have enough people to make a proper assessment of hundreds of thousands of additional files? How much personal data are they going to be allowed to go through before they find something? It doesn't necessarily keep us safe and sacrifices our civil liberties.

I would say it will be about Money knowing the Tories....so you can use the internet in your local area (Cardiff) after that we would have to pay and go through a rigorous registration process...it sounds crazy but it can't go on like it is IMHO learning how to make a bomb on line is fcuking crazy.

You sound like an expert, could you please translate this, "there is extremism on the internet of all kinds and we’ll be focusing on extremism of all kinds".

I would argue that GCHQ already has the tools to do what they need to.

Theresa May on the WannaCry virus "It infected a Window computer".

It strikes me that maybe this is yet another idealogical decision.

Twitter and Facebook have given a platform for nutters to spread their stupid, hate filled opinions to a mass audience and those that do so need to be accountable for what they post.

I'm not suggesting censorship, I am suggesting accountability.

Using it as a sofa instead.

    Makes more sense.
