I really do not know what came over me!

    I am a 4 on this scale.
However, I consider myself a North of the river Londoner rather than English/ Welsh/ British.
    Always one awkward bugger!

Your definition of Welsh being born in Wales is wrong.

I have lived outside of Wales for 37 years. My two sons were born as I and their Mum at St. Davids Hospital.
But have spent nearly all of their life in England.
Had they been born after we left Wales they would be no less 'Welsh'.
My grandsons who were born in England also know themselves to be Welsh and support CCFC, Wales AFC, WRU etc. they wear the shirt as did their dad.
    So Welsh but born elsewhere.
If as a result of that they have a dual opportunity to play for two teams then I would love it to be Wales and I feel sure they would too.
However, if you are good enough, you can represent Wales at sport if you were born in Wales, whilst maybe no-one in your ancestry is Welsh.

Nationality is a grey area of course. Place of birth for many would indicate their nationality.

1972 FA Cup tie v Arsenal. Reading lost 2/1 but played really bravely and they became my team. I was only 7 at the time! That's my defence your honour.

I would consider that person to be as Welsh as I am.

Same criteria ought to apply for any other 'nation'.

    ^^ This

I can't agree with that 'identify' stuff I'm afraid, as much as I love Wales and have 2 Welsh children myself I still wouldn't call myself Welsh because it's simply not true.
I'm not sure I worded what I meant very well - again ;) , or I have misunderstood what you have posted apparently in response.

Surely you do identify with being from/of somewhere? - presumably England ? And rightly so, if so.

Aye, but the suffix to that was "and having some fairly sensible reason to back it up".
If you are saying that we cannot simply, casually and arbitrarily decide our Nationality - then we are saying the same thing, I think!

Not bothered at all-not nationalistic in any way.

    1.

Living outside Wales for so long has not reduced any feeling of "Welshness". In fact, quite the reverse, given how little regard the Scots and French have for the English.
