Probably being 8 points ahead of Preston with 4 games to go (they had 3 games left), losing 6-0 up there, winning only 1 point from the last 3 games and missing out on the playoffs to Preston on goals scored.

    One for oldies.......

1966 - Cardiff City 5 Middlesbrough 3 - incredible performance by Greg Farrell -the best performance I have ever seen by an individual in a Cardiff City shirt which made relegation impossible that year followed by, the game after.......

Preston North End 9 Cardiff City 0

" Slaughter at Deepdale " was the headline on the Football Echo that evening.

The old " teleprinter " on Grandstand went Preston 9 ( nine ) Cardiff 0.

After the victory over Middlesborough Jimmy Scoular said " now the threat of relegation has been lifted we can
go out and play our normal game at Preston ".
