    Heartburn

A few years ago I could eat what I want, as much as I want, as quick as I want.

Now I even struggle from the smell of a double cheeseburger from Maccies.

    Next level pain

I go through bouts of it, usually when I’ve been drinking too much. Rennie normally sorts it out for me, but if it persists I use Omeprazole. You can get it from any chemist.

It's about the acidic levels in your stomach .

The efficency of your stomach as a mechanism to digest reduces 1% per year in your 40/50's .

If you go the the GP your slammed onto Lanznaprole type drugs to reduce the acid ,however you do need a balance of acid to break down food and stop diorhea which strips out nutrition to your organs .

Best advise I can give is to take cider vinegar with meals and probotic vitamins to introduce microorganism back into your gut.

We live or die from what our stomach does, well worth reaserching as we get older , before prescription answers as Lanznaprole that stops hearburn can neutralise other copnonments in your stomach .

Also another natural product to try is calcium carbonate .

Hope this helps been there and suffered.

Sorry for the spelling bug words ain't easy

I've always thought that it was good to drink plenty of water with a meal but apparently you risk diluting your stomach's reservoir of hydrochloric acid.

I get it from certain foods and drink now

Never used to have it but now I do if I have something with garlic, onions, anything salty like bacon, drinks with a lot of sugar like Coke, orange juice

Always have a Rennie at hand! Makes it die down quickly

I have one omeprazole a week and that keeps the heartburn away.

A spoonful of yellow mustard stops heartburn, it's an age old remedy that works. Omeprazole made two family members ill.

    Re: Heartburn

The reason why Rennie helps its neutralizing the stomach , they contain calcium, and magnesium carbonate , you do however need a level of acid to help with digestion, trouble with omeprazole and lanzaprole they can unbalance your stomach , the other way, Rennie is lighter alternative take them with probotis and cider vinegar is a better natural solution than harsher alternatives.

""""" Rennie® Peppermint tablets contain two naturally-occurring antacids called calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate which neutralise excess stomach acid by turning it into water & other natural substances."""

Pastry is always a problem, orange juice always does it for me.

The apple cider vinegar seems to be popular and good for other things too, I'm going to get some myself.

Orange juice was a problem for me too - but I can now drink it without any problems. More fruit and vegetables helps, and less visits to Greggs.

I haven't eaten anything that you can buy from Greggs in ages, I'm a good girl now.

Did you watch the iplayer link in the Diabetes thread btw?
