    2012/13 team/squad v 2017/18 team/squad

Based on a question from my dad while walking home on Tuesday. Simply put who would win a game between the two sides played at ccs. Have put two teams below mainly based on appearances but with a few options and accounting for impact in campbell's case, but the question is who would win most often based on the team you would pick factoring in manager and squad.

    2012/13

    Marshall

    Taylor Hudson Turner/Connolly Mcnaughton

    Whittingham Gunnarsson Conway/Mutch

    Bellamy Helgusson/Campbell Kim/Noone

    2017/18

    Etheridge

    Bennett Manga/Bamba Morrison Peltier

    Patteron Ralls Damour/Gunnarsson

    Hoilett Zohore/Ward Mendez-Laing

i'll answer your question, 2012/13. Mainly due to Marshall.

Looking at the wiki page from that era its good to see that we still spunk ridiculous amounts of money strikers that turn out to absolute sh1te

    17/18 side because :
    It's a stronger all round side .
    Better defence.
Better forwards in Zohore and Holiet.
Just the edge in midfield especially if Patterson was in.
    Better manager .
    Mentally tougher.

I'm going for the 2012/13 team because of how most of them went on to perform in the Premiership.

I think our present side would struggle bigtime in the bigtime.

If my memory is correct, I was more certain of a good result before a game in 2012/13 too - having greater confidence in the team's ability to perform consistently.

But there's only a fag-paper between the two. So, 2012/13 to win over two legs on penalties.....

This team only requires 17 points from next 11 to reach Championship winning side's total. Although we have some tough remaining fixtures and injuries to contend with that looks achievable.

    The 2012/13 side struggled bigtime.

I agree though, I was a lot more expectant of a good result in 2012/13. If we had a 1-0 lead you weren't even worried about the opposition scoring.

2012/13 side only won 3 in the final 11 games

And only lost one. The same record for this team would see them reach one point fewer than the 12/13 side.

I'd just edge towards the 12/13 side - it's a toss of a coin job though and I may answer differently tomorrow!

Which was a shame because it's double points in the last 11 games, as we all know.

    Morrison
    Bamba
    Bennett
    Mutch
    Ralls
    Patterson
    Bellamy
    Hoilett
    Zohore

Looking at the Premier League, I think Zohore, now he's got his mojo back, will be a far more effective striker than Campbell was - I also think Zohore is far better at this level than him. Hoilett, on current form, is a significant improvement on anything in 2012/13. Ralls offers more as a midfield playmaker than Whittingham (apart from set pieces). We're also stronger at the back.

We're only 1 point off what we had at the corresponding point in 2012/13, having scored 5 fewer but conceded 9 less. Much of this would be down to the open start we made in 2012/13 - after 15 games we were scoring over 2 a game on average but conceding around 1.5 goals a game (that 5-4 loss at Charlton forced a huge rethink). Over the remainder of the season our scoring rate dropped to below what our scoring rate has been this season. 5 more wins will beat the 2012/13 total.

In many ways, I reckon this side is just about better than the 2012/13 side. I also think it would be more potent up front than the Premier League side of 2013/14, which was utterly bereft of attacking flair and pace.

    Re: 2012/13 team/squad v 2017/18 team/squad

Think the deeper question is the quality of the opposition and their squads between the 12/13 season v 17/18 , taking the actual names of the sides out of it , and looking at the squads quality, for example Bolton were 7th , Wolverlona was 23rd .

Do the 17/18 opposition squads have more quality than 12/13 .

    12/13 :::: We won 25 , drew 12 ,lost 9 ,scored 72 ,conceded 45 .

    17/18 :So far Won 21 ,drawn 7 , lost 7 , scored 52 ,conceded 28.

The 2012/13 season was the first I can remember where fans were suggesting Whitts needed a rest and wasn't looking his usual self. He was eventually rested/dropped for the last 8 games of the season. Curiously, he was made captain for 4 games just before he was taken out of the starting XI, of which we lost 2 of those 4 games.

No doubts that Whitts is a City legend, but his greatest times with us were when he played under Dave Jones.

Based on your dads question I would say the most likely outcome would be a 0-0 or based on the fact that both teams are good at defending I would say a slender 1-0 to either side.I think Malkys side would have the set piece advantage because of Bellamy and Whitts but I think in open play the current crop would shade it.The current crop shade it for me only because Malky's side were like watching paint dry compared to Warnocks lot.Ask me again later because I'll probably have changed my mindIts that close.

    For me

    Marshall

    McNaughton Morrison Manga Bennett

    Gunnarsson Whittingham Ralls

    Bellamy Zohore Hoilett

    Re: 2012/13 team/squad v 2017/18 team/squad

I think 2018 would win. Warnock would out coach Malky. Wittingham would be bullied out of the game. 2018 would just fight much harder. 1-0 2018.

You're better off winning one losing one than drawing 2

Whitts was in the op, albeit that was mainly appearance based and not a personal selection.
