    Premiership salaries - league table

There's some opinions on here about Premiership salaries and what's a comparable salary.

I've created a table based on the 17/18 Premiership based on the top 10 salaries at each club, so it's roughly the 1st team average salary per week, excluding any bonuses. The top earner by club is in brackets.

    1. Man U £166k (Pogba £290k)
    2. Man C £154k (Aguero / Toure £220k)
    3. Chelsea £139k (Fabregas £206k)
    4. Arsenal £137k (Ozil £220k)
    5. Liverpool £119k (Milner £140k)
    6. Everton £91k (Rooney £160k)
    7. West Ham £88k (Hernadez £140k)
    8. Tottenham £84k (Kane, Lloris £100k)
    9. C.Palace £75k (Bentake £120k)
    10. West Brom £69k (Sturridge £130k ** loan)
    11. Leicester £68k (Vardy, Mahrez £100k)
    12. South'ton £67k (Gabbiadini £80k)
    13. Stoke £61k (Berahino £80k)
    14. Bournemouth £49k (Defoe £103k)
    15. Swansea £48k (Bony £90k)
    16. Newcastle £48k (Slimani £80k **loan)
    17. Watford £44k (Gray £70k)
    18. Brighton £35k (Izquierdo £45k)
    19. Burnley £34k (7 players on £35k)
    20. Hudderfield £34k (Pritchard £55k)

Make of it what you will, an AVERAGE £60k salary wasn't enough to keep West Brom & Stoke up.

I wonder if there's a link with West brom allowing their squad to get so old, many players have yearly increases don't they?
I'm guessing that they had a lot of wasted salary, is players on big wages that weren't contributing or getting into the side. I.e. agbonlahor at villa

Andre Gray is on 70k p/w

Surely that rules him out as a potential signing?!

Looking at the list of top earners at those clubs. How many of them would feel happy about paying those salaries to their highest paid player? At most 8 clubs out of 20 have gone some way to being worth it. I say we should keep the wage structure under control and take hungry players, be they young or solid pro's, with something to prove.

Out of interest , where did you get the figures from? Clubs haven`t published their 2017/18 figures yet .

What is our highest current wage ?

Re: Premiership salaries - league table

If we expect to stay up. We're going to have to pay for it. I think that's mistake Tan last time, he didn't understand the gulf in class between the Championship and the Premier. And I don't think he understand that we fought our way up instead of playing our way up. Which just makes it all the more difficult when you get there. I think he should be prepared to spend at least £50 million over the next two windows.

Thats a heck of a lot of money to be spending for us. Think about the likely income we'll get.

    Income: about
£100m for the bottom team next season
Season ticket money which will probably cover running costs (not including salaries), scouting, new contract signing bonuses.

    Expenditure:
Going by what the teams at the bottom paid in salaries this year 34k per week average for 25 players is £44m
Didn't we set aside almost £10m in promotion bonuses for the squad?

That leaves us with £46m unless we sell some players. I would have thought we'd invest some of that into the future of the club, like new facilities.

Berahino- £80k a week and no goals all season.

Re: Premiership salaries - league table

The thing which absolutely jumps out at me in Des' table is that Burnley are bottom of the league when it comes to the highest wage at the club, but then there are seven of them all on £35 k per week. No wonder we see them as the team to emulate - that's the way to keep dressing room cliques to a minimum.

Feb 2016 since he last score a goal. That's some serious money they've blown.

My educated guess based on past salaries and wage cutting would be around £20k.

When we were last in the Premier League (cough!) Bellamy, Caulker, Cornelius & Medal were supposedly on £35k.

Viila's top 10 wage earners this season average in excess of £40k, with at least 12 players on £35k+

I know there will be errors and extrapolation Keith but I don't think that they're too far out. Also appreciate that it's an American website and their models are based on American sports.

This. Set a wage ceiling for £35-£40k max. Got to be sensible. Saying we should go out and blow £50 million is ridiculous. £20 to £30 million maximum, got to live within our means.

Would much prefer we invested in our infrastructure of a new training ground at Hensol and maybe extend one of the ends of the stadium than spunk loads on Rondon and the like.

    Agree completely.

For me there's talent to poach from the lower leagues. Hopefully that's where Warnock has his eyes set as I anticipate we will need at least 8 signings considering out of contract and loan players needing to be replaced and a few players who will be surplus to requirements. £30m should cover that in my opinion. Cardiff don't need to break the bank to make a good account of themselves in the Premier League.

I don’t believe for 1 second Pritchard is on 55k a week at Huddersfield

Re: Premiership salaries - league table

You could divide all of those numbers by 10 and it would have no negative impact on the quality of the league.

Does anyone know officially what any of our squad are on per week? I've been meaning to ask for ages. I simply don't know. Does anyone now earn over £20k per week?

Re: Premiership salaries - league table

It doesn't matter if we go down, (I expect we will) as long as we spend with in our means and don't have a stupid wage bill. Stick to 25-30 k average. If we go down, keep Warnock and live off the parachute payments.

Bet Swansea regret not paying the extra 10k/week to get Kane instead

Blimey, Bamba better than van Dijk must mean he's on more than 165k/week.
