Sold out tours and album done well commercially. He'll never get a number one again due to the music industry being dreadful now, but music definitely hasn't left him behind. He's just as relevant now as he was in the 90s

No, there isn't absolute free speech in this country but this is more about free speech with consequences for his relationship with fans or potential fans.

I never much liked Morrissey - I always thought his music was pretentious drivel. His political comments in recent years have reinforced that dislike in me.

I didn't watch all the YouTube clips you attached, but the claim that no one (BBC or other) has ever previously asked if we can separate the art from the artist is rubbish. That question has been asked for centuries.

I don't think it's a strange or unfair question at all. Very often the art reflects the personality and views of the artist, but even if it doesn't it is natural that we will be attracted to and enjoy the work of people who share our values and opinions. I always look out for and identify with Welsh bands and novelists.

I can appreciate some of the abilities and skill of artists I don't like - but I can never forget if they use their platform to promote ideas or political causes I hate. Joan Armatrading lost me as a fan when she started to praise Thatcher, Her music didn't change, but the way I heard it did.

So just because you disagree with someone's political opinions you dislike them? That's a bit small-minded imo.

Why small minded? I respond to the whole person. I don't see the virtue in compartmentalising.

As I said above I can appreciate the ability and skill of people I don't like but in most cases I won't be buying a ticket to watch them perform. Hitler could have been the greatest water-colourist in history but I wouldn't be a fan even if I acknowledged the skill.

However, in the case of Morrissey it is easy. Don't like the man, don't like the music.
