There are facts and non facts, nothing else - made up facts and disproved facts do not exist, it's impossible for them to do so. Granted, it seems that it's so much harder to tell facts from non facts these days, but you have to try and find a way to do so.

You've outlined how you do it and it seems a little naive to me if I may say so, but each to their own and all that. The trouble is that you are very selective when applying that label "people who should have a fair idea about what is going on" aren't you - let's take current and past Presidents of the USA and the beaten candidate (you know, the one who got more votes than the winner!) in the last Presidential election as examples.

Two of the three Presidents before this one must surely have had a fair idea about what is going shouldn't they and yet you never appear to believe anything they do or say, the same applies to the beaten candidate in 2016 - all three of them, obviously, do not have "a fair idea of what is going on" as far as you are concerned and yet you present so much of what the current President says as fact.

For myself, I've said before that I prefer to use fact checkers rather than the men and women themselves as an aid towards deciding what are facts and non facts. It had been a while since I checked the one I use for American related issues, so I've just had a look this morning and you'll be pleased to know that your idol, the man who can do no wrong in your eyes, the man who "should have a fair idea of what's going on" is scoring a little better on the Truth o Meter these days;-

Sadly though, your man is still not doing well overall - for every time he says something that can be taken as true or even half true, there are two occasions when he says something which is mostly false or a downright lie;-

Compare his figures with the two ex Presidents who you think did not "have a fair idea of what is going on"

Trump's predecessor is thought to have been at least half truthful three times for every time he utters a falsehood and for Bill Clinton, it's much the same - as, indeed, it is for his wife.

Now, of course, I realise that the people working for the fact checker are probably all socialists and members of the Fabian Society just like Theresa May and Angela Merkel are, but I'll take that risk for now.

I'm dogmatic and quite one eyed in my political thinking and have the unfortunate habit of still thinking of things in terms of red and blue or left and right, but my dogma is as nothing compared to you, the man who tries to make out that he has moved beyond such old fashioned concepts!

One last thing, you really should realise that self praise is no recommendation whatsoever.
