Big Sam to the rescue by Xmas
Still going then, this thread, skipped a page or two, has the bitching stopped?
Warnock will stand or fall based on his team and how they compete?
But ive said it before our back 4 from last season (combo of peltier morro bamba and bennett manga) had a pass completion rate of less than 50% overall in the champ. That is simply not good enough and we will have a real uphill task in the prem if we give the ball away every other time we pass it out the back.
50% pass completion would major concern if we were the sort of team looking to play out from the back or retain possession for long periods but we're not. We look to get forward quickly making passes into danger areas that, more often than not will get picked off by the defence, but if it comes off only 10% of the time it still leads to real goal scoring opportunities.
Germany had a lot of possession at the World Cup. Still went out in the group stages.
Attacking disorganised defences when they are vulnerable is the new theory.
Where did Burnley finish last season?
4 pages of utter bollocks unsurprisingly started by someone who once claimed on here to have no legs.
What did people expect? Sack Warnock. Appoint Klopp and give him £200m to spend so we could transform our style?
If you want to compete by changing your style then that’s an indication of what it might cost
The goal is obviously to just stay up - it’s a big ask as the entire squad is inexperienced at this level but it’s a possibility we’ll do it if we get Warnocks premier league average of around a point a game.
Whatever happens I think we might be one of the best 25 or so teams in the country for the next 3 years
Why is it a more suitable comparison? Because that suits your argument?
You are adamant that possession is completely necessary to avoid relegation from the Premier League, but, 7th placed Burnley, any Pulis team (West Brom, Stoke and Palace) and Premier League Champions Leicester (just to name a few) show that possession is meaningless unless you do something with it.
Burnley recorded 3,028 long balls last season, the most of any team in the league (15th placed Brighton were 2nd with 2,774) and had 43.6% possession on average (Brighton had 43.7%).
Of course, a lot of teams will get relegated with poor possession stats, but lots of teams don't... And that's the f*cking point!
Can someone please delete this trolls thread, looks good Warnock seeing this crap on here, time to delete and ban this henry hill
I always use this as a point in any argument regarding tactics, and when the bellends on match of the day are discussing possession I'm always rolling my eyes.
Granted, if the other team has the ball more, we can't score, but then if the other team is passing it around their central midfield and back four, it's worthless possession. Possession only means anything in the final third.
Luckily for us, that's where we choose to pass the ball around.
Possession is a pointless stat when your pass stat is high moving forward and there is a very high miles run stat in the team. And if you are lucky enough to have pace in the team. But when you have a 50% passrate, a midfield who struggles to find a good pass and players running them self to the ground chasing shadows, possession is crucial.
